TCG Xen FAQ

Looking at the main forum listing

  • What’s New tab is where you’ll find New Posts (replacement for Live Feed) & All Posts. There is also a New Posts link under the Nav Bar, top left...as well as a big blue button you can click (visible on mobile as well).
  • On mobile, you can access New Posts from ANY page on the site via the lightning bolt at the top right of the page.
  • The New Posts page is self refreshing - by default, it is set to 60 seconds but you can choose the refresh rate manually should you want.
  • Watched (found under main Nav Bar) is where you’ll find your subscribed threads (you can set options for this in your preferences)
  • Clicking your avatar at the top right will bring up your site preferences One click brings up the drop down, 2 brings up your settings.
  • The envelope button next to that is your PMs (called conversations on Xen). They can act as mini threads, where you can attach images easily as well as invite more members to join the conversation.
  • The last button is for your alerts - Replies, Quotes and Reactions. These are in real time. IF you click into a thread that has a pending alert, it will clear the alert (even if you don't manually check what the alert is).
  • You can start new threads from the main page via the big green button, top right. This is one of only two ways to access the Advanced Editor page.
  • Change from Dark to Light at the bottom left of site. I recommend remaining on the dark theme as its updated the most frequently.
  • Each category is collapsible (same as VB) via the toggle at the top right of the category bar.
  • There is a QUICK SEARCH box at the top left of all pages. Using it will give you slightly better results compared to the built in Xen search, which quite frankly, sucks.
  • The ShoutBox can be completely disabled by going into your user preferences and disabling it there. User preferences can be found by clicking your avatar at the top right of the site.

Using the New Posts page as well as viewing the inside of sub-forums

  • Xen handles thread listings slightly different than VB - For a thread you have NOT viewed, clicking into it takes you to the first post. If there is a new post, clicking in will take you to the new post or to the end of the thread. If you ALWAYS want to go to the last post of a thread, its very simple. On desktop via New Posts, you would click the timestamp under the thread title. On mobile, same applies. When viewing a sub-forum on desktop, you can click the timestamp at the far right of the thread box. For mobile, same as New Posts.
  • At the top of any sub-forum is the Quick Thread box. Its like quick reply, only for starting threads. There is a button labeled MORE OPTIONS at the bottom right of that box. This is the second way to access the advanced editor page.

Inside of Threads

  • Likes are now treated as reactions and you can do more than just Like. On desktop you click for a Like or hover for reactions. On mobile, click for Like, long press for reactions.
  • Multi-quote has received an upgrade. When you multi-quote and go to insert them, you are treated with a list you can sort - meaning you can manually reorder the quotes to better fit your reply. In order to INSERT quoted posts, once you've selected the quoted posts, in the reply box, bottom left is where you will tap the INSERT QUOTES button. From there, you can edit the quotes, rearrange, etc. It sounds more complicated than it actually is.
  • If you cant access any of the buttons in the editor (bold, underline, etc), tap the cog icon at the end of the list. By default, the site will also have the rich editor enabled.
  • Alt+S (to post) has been replaced by Cntrl+Enter.
  • The top navigation bar moves as you scroll the thread, so all the buttons are quickly accessible.
  • The smiley button will toggle on and off a permanent list of emojis for quick access. At the far right of that list is a drop down arrow where you can access the entire emoji catalog.
  • Embeds from the VB site did not carry over but its an easy fix - simply edit the thread and save and that will refresh the links.
Attachment System

NEW - We have a 3rd party uploader built right into the site. This uploader has a 50mb image limit, so feel free to upload ANY size image. Sorry, videos are now allowed. You can use this uploader by clicking the button labeled "images".

Welcome to 2019 where attachments now work flawlessly. Here is a breakdown on how to use the new system:
  • At the bottom left of the reply box is the attachments button. When you click it, you can upload up to 20 images or gifs, with each attachment having a 10mb limit.
  • Here is where things can get slightly confusing - if you want to simply upload 20 images, you wait for them to upload then hit reply. The site will load them one line a piece and you’re all set. Should you want to type of text, then insert a pic, then continue to type up a thread, you would want to hit THUMBNAIL and that will insert a picture at your desired spot. That is the ONLY way to easily add images between blocks of text. Once you actually do it, it makes total sense.
  • Images load at a fixed size (not exactly big) BUT you can click on them and they will enlarge to full resolution. This is done to keep threads clean and to keep mobile from having to pan left or right.
Covers

I’m pretty excited about this feature. Its not perfect but its going to add a lot of personalization to the site. So stay with me…

Covers allows you to add header images to YOUR threads and your profile page. So for example, you have a build thread that you will keep updated, you can give that build thread a cover image to set the thread apart from the rest. Same goes for your profile page…think of it like a Facebook cover. THREAD EXAMPLE / PROFILE EXAMPLE

For threads, the cover option can be found at the top right of the thread (after a thread is created, it shows up). For profiles, the option is found slightly right and down from your Av. You can only add covers to YOUR created content.
These look AWESOME on mobile but are a bit more finicky on desktop.

Auto Embedding

Xen supports over 100 sites for auto embedding. 95% of the time, you DO NOT need to use IMG tags to post media. Simply post the link and the site will do the rest. Links from imgur, for example, no longer need the full jpg url. Just grab the link and paste.

Below is a list of all the sites supported:
