I got a really good deal on some forged pistons, rods, and a crank. It also comes with ARP studs/bolts. I hadn't planned on building a new motor so soon, but the price was right. I could really sit on the parts for a year and wait for the motor to go naturally, but I'd like to get some money for it.

Shibby - If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get for your old motor?

Anyway, I have a list I'm going to have to put together in the next month or two if I want to get this project rolling by the spring.

Here is what I can think of so far:

Smallest pulley I can find
Upgraded fuel pump
Bigger injectors
New block worthy of at least 600whp

I'm definitely going to consult Tim from Mr. Norm's garage. I'm going to have him tune it, so maybe he can throw me a few pointers about getting it ready for tuning. It's not going to put out crazy power since I'm staying with the stock heads/cams for now. I'm guessing it will be around 500whp on pump gas.

I'm picking up the parts from the Byron area tonight, so I'll be skipping Luke's for a good reason.

So this is going in your current block or you're going to find another one to build then sell your shortblock?

Is it the block/cylinder walls, etc. that's weak on these or just the internals? Why can't you use the stock block?

I was told the stock block could handle about 600whp.

I really need to talk to Tim and get some good advice on a build.

I thought the stock block would go a lot further than that... It's just the internals that are made of play-dough...

This. I remember reading in my carcraft that the block can take well over 1000hp. It was just the rotating assembly that sucks (2v)

So who is going to help me put this mud motor together? Hopefully I'll get all the crap together somewhat soon, and we can maybe do it late fall or super-early spring. Working in garages kind of sucks Dec-Feb.

I'm meeting the seller tonight at the BP near 39/72. What is the best way to get there from Schaumburg? Do I take 72 all the way there?
