I could see paying $3500 to $4500...
Offer him $2500
Now if it were a 1.9 kit, i'd offer him a chrome boat anchor for his kenne bell boat anchor
I wouldnt pay more than 2k for a used KB for a 2v.
4v KBs are where it's at!
I love my 2.1 on my 2 valve, made 500 whp And 525 torque, but I'm planning on selling it this winter, I seen complete inter cooled kits go anywhere from 2800-4000 for a low miles non polished used unit. Reason selling the 2 valve to expensive to build and want turbos, not sure yet what power plant will be going in its place.
There was nothing wrong with the 1.7 or the 1.9's at all. Sure, they were a little limited for the power they could produce; but still easily made over 400rwhp on a non-aggressive tune.
Until you get your ass whopped by a 2v KB GT in a ported Eaton 4v. Though there are not a lot of them done up right, they still do exist. Don't discount the 2v. I have personally built a few back in the day to be monsters whether it be with KB blower or big DP shot of nitrous on a single plane Vic Jr. intake.
I didnt mean that because of the blowers ability, i meant it in the sense that you could find a much better blower for not much more money. Really no point in buying a 1.7 kit when ive seen 2.6 2v and 3v kits go for $3000 to $4000
What else do you have done on your car for that power level with the 2.1L? How much boost?

Therein lies the issue. Most people have not and do not build their 2v or 4v modular Fords to properly take advantage of the bigger blower such as the 2.6. Just as with anything that compresses air, there is an efficiency range. Fall within it and you are making great hp/psi boost, fall out of it and you make less; sometimes substantially less. I have seen way too many folks get 2.6's and 2.8's only to pulley them to sub-20psi levels and then wonder why they make less power per psi boost than some of the smaller displacement blowers. Using a 2.6 and spinning it really low just means more mechanical drag has been put on the drivetrain while operating a blower that isn't in its efficiency range. I see that as a waste of money and leaving power on the table. Most folks who aren't shooting for truly large numbers would be absolutely fine with the smaller blowers. So, while I do see your point, I also submit that the blower size should first be matched to the intended usage before arbitrarily deciding on a model. Someone planning to remain on the stock 4.6 2v bottom end has no need of the added cost and reduced efficiency of a needlessly large blower. This bigger is better mentality happens in the aftermarket turbo industry even more according to what I have seen.
I agree completely, but most people willing to drop $4000 on a blower, new or used, are willing to spend $4-6 on a shortblock for when the stock one goes and will then up the boost. Now you have a blower that is too little for the power you want with your new forged shortblock and you have to buy another blower that will give you the power you want.

their ad that said you could make 750hp with that blower.
I know they likely were claiming brake horsepower, but even that seems out of range without a lot of other upgrades.
