Hardly tell it's even the same band, complete different writing style. Bells tolls is E at 120bpm 4/4 and King is Eb at 112bmp 4/4.

Bells, has a mash of chords, single notes and all around general great playing, well written. Fun song to play.

King, well its pretty bland, something over and over with little progression, only saving grace is the solo. Pretty lazy song in my eyes.

And the tone on Bells is just far superior to that of King.

I get that they went to or wanted to do more of a groove oriented style of writing. And there's nothing wrong with that.

In regards to Mooks original question:

Load has a negative appeal because of the following reasons in my mind:
1. The band takes a 4 year break between load and the single-happy black album. I think more was to be expected out of load. The original thrash fans expected Metallica to go back to their roots. Instead they cut their hair and produced more radio-friendly rock.

2 Bob Rock. Fuck this guy. He's worse than Lars. He's probably the prick that kept whispering in his ear

3. Lars and his vision of the future.

4. 10 years past Cliffs death. Jason Newsted wasn't a band member. He just played bass.

5. Most importantly. No drugs/booze. I think they lost inspiration when they lost the ability to get fucking wasted and break shit.

Just my .02

I think if they changed the name of the band-everyone would've loved load

Totally wrong about Newsted . He brought a lot to the table on And Justice for all .

If you joined a huge band to fill a vacant spot you would have to play the way they told you .

That doesn't mean he brought nothing to the table. If you can't hear the bass on Justice you need to adjust the knobs on your player.

He thought he could be somebody after Metallica. Where is he now?
That is not what I am saying. Lmao But he was very open about not being part of the creative process with in the band. Not to the extent he wanted at least. Many agree the bass was very tame or muted in many of their songs. And the article claims it wasn't the sound mixer who messed it up, but lars. My musical ear isn't good enough to call that one. But it does seem flat. Lol

You must not pay attention very much....

Allow me to show you what Metallica should still sound like.

Yeah, he did. But you have to listen to the remastered tracks to even fucking hear anything.

That's bullshit. You have just as much as a creative input as anyone else if you're writing.

I digress. You have to listen to the re-amped tracks.

The whole album changes and has way more depth and isn't so flat and tin like.

[Flame Suit] This is good? [/Flame Suit]

Its not terrible. Id listen to that compared to 95% of the newer music out, but I dont know if it would be on my iTunes download. :dunno:

But also, no. I dont pay that much attention to newer music. Usually its recommend to me since I dont feel like drudging the music scene lately.

I also must have shitty hearing, cause I dont hear the bass difference all that much in the remaster Justice video. Unless its a bass solo. Im sure there is a difference, I just dont hear it. Could also be my shitty headphones too.

Thats all fine and dandy . You turn it up and hear Newsted . And you will hear his input .

He was a factor on the album . If Lars turned it down then he turned it down . But nate can't say newsted was just there for the ride .

It's just my .02

I can't explain why he left the band to play with a bunch of 16 year olds in a garage either
