my buddy and i drove his dad's 05 6.0 2500 4l80 truck to michigan once and i swear we couldn't pass a fucking gas station to save our fucking lives. had to stop 3 fucking times in a 7 hour drive.

and it was the shittiest gmt800 seats ever- the one with the center "seat" that doesn't fold down. fuck that bench setup. fucking worst.

Parents towed a bigger and heavier travel trailer than yours with their '10 or '11 Expo...besides some squat that could've been solved with some helper bags, it was more than good. This was also in Florida heat, never had a power problem or any overheating issues (that's even with the horseshit 5.4). If you got an EcoBoost Expo, you'd never have any issues with power. They're rated over 9K pounds with the tow package. Comfy as shit. And cheap. But you'll never get the resale like a GM truck. Just my .02

If you plan on keeping it for a long time (which I know isn't a trait of the OP), a K.I.S.S. GM small block V8 is the way to go. I get on a stat sheet in the power department, it may not win, but it'll run forever with even the most basic of maintenance. KJ has posted a couple of nice 'burbs already.
