Any time someone makes weekday evening plans, especially in the winter, I turn instantly grumpy. I love doing stuff on the weekends but on weekdays just let me work, go to the gym, play with the kid, then sit on my ass

Yupyupyupyup. On the rare occasion some weekday nonsense pops up it's initiated by the in-laws and I'll immediately pull the "I'm not driving back out to *x* location after driving 40 mins home from work" card. You're both retired, the SIL does nothing so of course she doesn't care about weekday plans, but Kristy and I both work a lot. If you want to do something M-Th don't plan on us being there.
If I'm WFH that day then I'm more flexible, if not, FOH
