Okay so I need help. I have a 85 iroc that I'm doing a 6.0 swap to. The motor is a 2003 lq4. Here is my problem. I don't know much about transmissions. I found a 4L60E I was thinking of buying. It's out of a 94 z28 had a lt1 hook to it. My question is will it bolt to my 6L? What will I need to do to make it work? Or will it even work?

first off how much power are you planning on making? a used 4l60e might not be your best choice

It should bolt up, but I think you have to run a flexplate spacer IIRC. It won't work with the 2003 computer though.

Dont put a stock 4l60 behind a 6.0, its a waste of time and money. Get a built one or something beefier like a 4l80e.

For now the 6.0 will be stock. Later down the road I plan on maybe 450whp. Maybe a turbo build. What should I look for? And out of what vehical should I pull it from? I'm looking to spend about 300 to 400 for a trans. I just want to get the car going for now.

Well, I would have a plan and stick to it, and save your $ for what you want. A 4L60e is barely going to last behind a 6.0L at stock power levels. Then you will have a $400 pile of parts now worth nothing and still need a trans. Save $2k for a built trans or a 4l80e.

I did the same shit with my truck, and now I am kicking myself. Just do it right the first time, even if that means the car is down for longer. It will be well worth it in the end.

Nothing, a 4l80e is what came on the 6.0 so it will bolt right up and need nothing special.

Its not ideally geared for racecarz but at least it will last longer. Im not sure what else is needed to swap into a third gen though.

What if I did the 4L60E and rebuilt it with one of those monster in a box kits? Says will handle 500+ horsepower.

Ok, here is my input. A 4l60e will not last behind a 6.0 for very long even in stock form. The torque will destroy it. I 6.0/4l80e swapped my silverado and its easy. The 80e can be had for around 600 or maybe less but you have to go out and find them. I paid 700 or 800 for mine with 77k on it (it was MINT) and had a transgo HD-2 kick install and re-freshed the clutches. All in all I have $1k in it (for now.... something is going in it or the Torque Converter... bad tune).

They come behind the 6.0 and 4.8 in the 3500 cargo vans. All i did to hook it up was run 2 wires for the 2nd VSS sensor to the computer and re-pin the main hook-up and segment swap it via HPtuners. It's that simple. You mentioned 450rwhp was your goal, it will handle that no problem in stock form ;)

The 80e has my vote. As far as gearing, its the same as a th400 just with OD 2.482, 1.482, 1, .75. If you stick with a 26"-28" tire 3.73's or 3.90's would be fine to get you movin pretty good.

Hope that helped :bigthumb:

I was hoping you would chime in. The trans is also in escalades, 2500's, and H2s.

Thanks guys. I'm going to take your word for it and go with the 80. Sounds like less of a head ake. Last thing though what's a good stall to run on that?

That will depend on your setup. The gears and cam you choose. I would figure out what you are gonna do now as far as cam goes and build your gear and stall around it. That trans is fuckin heavy lol

Just bought a 4L80e for 200 bucks. He says he has paperwork and he can show me the truck it came from to prove it only has 80k on the motor.
