🔧 BUILD My junker Buick revival....

General Information

Doubt anybody cares but figured I had my cucv build here so why not. This is my first car when I was 16, it's a 1970 Buick gran sport. It was slightly less junk then but not by much. It got parked after the trans gave way as well as the brakes. It sat for many years outside and then a few years in a garage. I was finally able to go and get it last week.

The uncovering aka barn find status.

Emersonhart13 and I were able to get it on to the trailer (my brother helped)

Getting it off the trailer turned into a hell of a thing as well. A neighbor walking by was kind enough to help out.

Got her over to her spot so the wife can potentially park in the garage again

Got to work today on it. Checked the oil and threw a battery in it. Gave it a bit of spray and she fired right up. Steady oil pressure and a bit of an exhaust leak. Seemed to idle oh so nice for sitting for a good 8 years. RAN WHEN PARKED

Yep, leaking.

Wasn't done for the day. Decided that since the engine seemed all good for now, might as well get going on the trans.

Finished up my wiring for the most part. Still need to wire up my dummy light for the alternator. Wire insulation across the engine was cracking and falling off instead of using fusible links and antiquated ways I ended up basically wiring it like a newer gm vehicle with a 100a mega fuse on the firewall using a mix of new gal wires and wiring from my caprice harness.

A lot has happened in a month. Yet another “yay it’s running” to taking it apart again

Rebuilt my wiring harness successfully and cut down a bunch of shit I don’t need anymore. (Still haven’t connected my alt dummy light)

The carb was seeping quite a bit from having fuel in it and running so I yanked that and the fuel tank.

Next on the agenda is figuring out my venting. The original vents are destroyed and missing any sort of “filter” it used to have. I’ve read of people using charcoal canisters from later 70’s/80’s cars and still venting those out vs hooking up to vacuum on the carb. Basically the goal is to not stink like raw fuel in my attached garage.

Oh hey I forgot I bought new rear lower control arms to match my uppers. These replace the last factory suspension part front and rear.

Got the passenger side on but haven’t gotten to the drivers yet. Still trying to figure out e brake cable mounting shit.

Posted this in the thread about covers but figured I’d post in here too. Here’s the fuel pump access cover I drew up and had sendcutsend laser cut for me. Still need to tap and counter sink some of the holes.

Plan for now is to just squish the raised bits down and sandwich them with the two flanges. I wish SCS could do grooves so I could have done an o ring but I’ll probably just do a small bead of rtv, let it dry and squish it. If I ever replace the trunk floor I’ll probably just weld one of the flanges in but I’m sick of welding rusty metal and want this thing back on the road so that’ll have to wait.

I did not scroll back, but what tank and pump setup is this? LSA swapped 66 GTO we are doing.
Rick’s restomod tank. Basically a baffled stock replacement tank. It’s baffled front to back and side to side. It’s got dual 450’s in their billet hat. You can also drop a gm assembly in the tank. That was my original plan since the caprice uses the same pump assembly as the zl1.

They told me as long as it wasn’t a full blown race car on slicks the tank would be just fine for what I want. They suggested a stainless custom tank if that’s what I wanted to do with the car
