🔧 BUILD My junker Buick revival....

General Information

Doubt anybody cares but figured I had my cucv build here so why not. This is my first car when I was 16, it's a 1970 Buick gran sport. It was slightly less junk then but not by much. It got parked after the trans gave way as well as the brakes. It sat for many years outside and then a few years in a garage. I was finally able to go and get it last week.

The uncovering aka barn find status.

Emersonhart13 and I were able to get it on to the trailer (my brother helped)

Getting it off the trailer turned into a hell of a thing as well. A neighbor walking by was kind enough to help out.

Got her over to her spot so the wife can potentially park in the garage again

Got to work today on it. Checked the oil and threw a battery in it. Gave it a bit of spray and she fired right up. Steady oil pressure and a bit of an exhaust leak. Seemed to idle oh so nice for sitting for a good 8 years. RAN WHEN PARKED

Yep, leaking.

Wasn't done for the day. Decided that since the engine seemed all good for now, might as well get going on the trans.

a bicycle picture has nothing to do with the Buick !

Sure it does.

I’m just not on here much. Better things to do and life keeps me busy. It’s dusty as fuck because I’ve been doing some wood working in the garage.

I got new front lower control arms and qa1 shocks all installed. Interior is mostly done minus some carpet trimming for my shifter boot (and still need to redo front seats but more pressing things ahead of that). It’s on the ground for the first time since I brought it home. Here’s a MySpace style pic

Powder coated some bits. I have a friend who runs a powder/paint shop and I got to use his facilities and shop the free shelf. Found this bronze/grey color and really liked it. Black seemed boring and I’m not a huge fan of bright colors for calipers. Hoping it looks good behind my wheels. Also did the rear end cover because why not.

Also did my new intake manifold. I don’t really care for Buick engine red (or red in general) so I’m thinking the new 455 will be in the silver-grey tone when I put it in. Black seemed cool for an intake manifold :dunno: (still need to clean up the scripts)

Also painted my new headers in silver ceramic high temp cerakote. That’s the Tahoe header but you get the idea. Both sets were coated.

Looking good. I used cast coat iron high temp paint for a grey look on an engine years ago. Love that look.
I love that color, used it on some manifolds on our old Pontiac. I was kind of leaning silver engine. That’s down the road, still need to figure out what to even do with the 455.

I have the hydroboost unit, master cylinder (probably won’t use but good reference), lines and pump from the donor truck. A friend is parting out a k3500 so freebie stuff.

I figured if the pump doesn’t work I can at least swap the tank but pretty sure gm just used the same style pump forever (just different internals I think?).

Then was just going to go with a Monte Carlo ss box since it’s O-ring fittings and cheap quick ratio setup.

The pump is the same, the housing is not. If you don't have two return ports it can cause a bunch of trouble. The Monte box or a jeep one have the same ratios. I used stock 2000s silverado hydroboost lines on a couple swaps. The only trouble you might have is welding the units pedal shaft. I did that once, after that I won't because you can't just go get another one. Everthing I do for myself has hydroboost.
