I've got both my mountain bikes in the car so I can put both together after work at the shop.

For sure going tomorrow after work. I'd love to go today but it'll probably be dark by the time I get over there

Got a good ride in today. Did a minor unplanned dismount and lost my computer... but got lucky enough to backtrack and find it again.

I just picked up my stuff. These tires feel like gummy bears.

Got these new avids on. Theyre mushier then my Hayes and the rear line is crazy long. I'm gonna cut it down and try bleeding them.

Told you so. With a bleed mine feel comparable to what i remember your Hayes feeling like.

The Hayes were decently stiff. Hydraulics just never feel like cable brakes to me though. My favorite are still a good set of 990's that are just solid.

I'll give bleeding a shot. Were you able to re use the fitting at the lever? Looks like you can but I wasn't sure

I didn't bother. The brakes came with replacements as did the bleed kit. I had never bled hydraulic brakes before so i just followed the instructions to a T. I too miss the 990 feel but i think i prefer the smoothness of the Elixir's over the "cable" feel of the BB5's.

I didn't even open the bleed kit yet so assume there are some in there along with fluid.

I cut the rear hose like 8" shorter then bled both front and rear. Wasn't too bad but for sure different then other brands. My Hayes you bleed just like a car.

They seem a lot more solid and the rear lever doesn't click weird anymore. I noticed the clamps themselves allow the lever to flex so I think that's where I'm feeling some of the mushiness; in reality I'll never be pulling that hard on the levers.

Only thing is I wish the engagement was farther out. The lever is too close when it's fully pulled. I didnt have a small Allen to adjust the levers out at all. That might help

The X0's don't have the little wheel thing to adjust the levers with? I have mine just about a half turn in from fully out and i never need more than one finger on the end of the lever for any braking situation.

and don't the X0's have the contact point adjustment as well?

These things are too crazy. I could never ride one of those with any confidence.

I'm just gonna ride them as is and see what needs changing. You have a 2 bolt clamp right? This single bolt crap is lame.


You don't like the lefty? The stanchion is a hexagon so it can't rotate. It's still a weird sight though.

I understand the physics of it, but I think I'd always be leaning left on that fork. I also don't understand how that doesn't put a shit ton of stress on the axle.

I believe the hub uses a 26mm axle. That's like the size of the steerer tube

Just weighed it. With the wrong pedals it weighs 28.4lbs

Not to bad for a steel frame with 150mm fork and heavy ass wheels

I prefer riding alone. I push myself harder and don't have to turn around to see where anyone else is.

I just got back a bit ago. I'd say it was a fail I'm missing a spacer for my bottom bracket so my cranks were all loose on the drive side. I ended up riding home in my granny gears to not put to much strain on it. I gotta find the spacer and pop that in.

My brakes feel pretty sweet now that I spaced the levers out

Joel- What size car brake line are you using over your front MTB brake hose? Mine is scuffing my fork leg and i liked how you had yours set up.

it was some i had at work; its a tad bit too small though. i think its 3/16" but not 100%



i got my cranks all figured out and my tires on. now i just need to wait for this shitty weather to clear up.
