HP is just a label though.

Id rather have a lighterweight high HP car (assuming it hooks) rather than a 500hp semi truck :pedobear:

I totally agree with this. For some reason I doubt the new 3 series will really be much lighter though. Manufacturers aren't making their cars heavier on purpose, creature comforts and all the new safety requirements add a ton of weight.

The flatness of the torque curve may be similar but it will likely have an extra 100 pounds-feet of torque. That will significantly change how that car drives. IMO, for the better.

And I totally disagree. The M3 motor is a much torquier feel to it than even an LS1 motor. I'm going out now, but when i come back I'll explain why. (Has to do with M3's peak torque being at a lower RPM than that of an Ls1 plus more aggressive trans gearing)

Grabs popcorn... :drama:

We're going to compare first gear
LS1 = 350 torque at 4500 rpm X 2.97 (first gear trans gear) X 3.42 = 3555
M3 = 300 torque at 3900 rpm X 4.06 (first gear trans gear) X 3.85 = 4689

So the M3 actually puts down 31% more torque than the LS1 in first gear. The M3 ALSO has full torque at only 46% of its rev limit while the LS1 achieves peak torque at 72%.

Just so sick of hearing people say, "The M3 has no torque, so it's weak off the line" If people actually knew/did the math, they'd realize that the M3 has a massive amount of torque on hand at any given speed. Pflug, weeks ago you told me the M3 has no torque and therefore is slow off the line. Here is the math proving that you are WRONG, I await your response Pflug, it should be a good one.

I'm not concerned about the math. Numbers only tell half the story. How it feels can't be summed up with an equation. Same goes for any power rating. I'm not a fan of how peaky the M3 is compared to the DI, turbo offerings, but the M3 is setup perfectly to handle its current power. BMW isn't going to take a step back with the new M3; that's for sure.

I was joking around, but you take this torque thing seriously...

#1. Your maximum tq is wrong per BMW's website: 295/3900 lb-ft

#2. I've driven a M3 like yours a few times and it doesn't "feel" fast under about 4K rpms. That's why people claim it doesn't have torque.

#3. Why is your SS faster than the M3 down the 1/4:dunno:

Did you have M mode on? Drove it a few times? Most people have NOT driven the new M3.
