But how is it “better and cheaper” I mean if you buy a car and then send it out to get an engine installed it can’t possibly be cheaper.
Agreed there unless they’re trying to come up with a package OE’s can buy and install?

you don’t think it would be cool to just plop this in on long trips and avoid any bullshit charging stations?

Volt has 9 gallon tank. Motor is just under a hundred HP. When running on just the motor it is slower than without so I am guessing they hoping you never run on just that little generator.

150 HP!! 294lb's of Torque!!
The 2019 Volt does not need the motor to run to add horsepower. It just adds range to the battery.

Currently at 612MPG on the first tank of gas!!

The owners manual says somewhere that the car is faster 0-60 in range extend mode. Will test with dragy and my ELR

Honestly I think we’re past that. The EREV (extended range electric vehicle) should be the most popular thing on earth but besides the volt and some select other plug in hybrids it never really caught on. Cost + complexity just isn’t worth it. After all, one huge advantage to electric cars is the reduction in moving parts and failure points. Why even bother lugging around an ICE, emissions system, fuel system, etc... when you could instead focus on shortening charging times and increasing energy density in batteries?

No, I have plenty of electricity. But not everything in this world is in perfect unison and you forget to plug in when you get home. Then you're fucked because of a limited network. Saving grace is here at this shithole, they do have a lot of charging stations, but not everyone is so lucky.
