A F-16 fighter jet shot down the object, according to a Congressional aide, who said the object was shaped like an octagon and was at an altitude of 20,000 feet, posing a hazard to commercial aircraft.

It was the fourth object shot down over North America since a suspected Chinese spy balloon was destroyed Feb. 4.

The object shot down Sunday was the same one that had been tracked by U.S. officials since Saturday, leading the Federal Aviation Administration officials to temporarily close off airspace above Montana and Lake Michigan this weekend.
