No man I didnt have a 13 Z51. My GS was a used 11 with 1100 miles that stickered for $62k. But it was only $49k when I was willing to spend mid $50k on a base 13 shelby. But the shelby's with stickers that were $55k had adds pushing them to $70k. I couldnt afford that then or now. If I were putting $20k down I would have, but again I didnt have that kind of scratch at that moment. So I got the used certified GS for $49k. I didnt start looking at corvettes. But after calling several in and out of state dealers, plus going to Gurnee, Schaumburg, Buss and bull Valley, I was seeing the same results. Even for an order or a locate, they wanted more than sticker by alot.

You bought yours at the end of production after a new model has been introduced. Im sure dealers that have been holding their shelbys for a long time like yours, are willing to deal because at some point they need to sell it. Comparing when I was shopping to when you did is like two completely different situations. I didnt want to wait until the next model year was introduced 2 years later to finally get one.

49k vs 55k was a deal breaker? Fair enough I mean, budget is budget, I understand. But to knock this car for its 60k NEW tag because it has a name on it is plain silly.

It boasts stats to put a ZR1 down, and at 40k less. How is that a problem?

No it WASNT a deal breaker.....lol did you READ MY POST?????? I said I went shopping for a $55k sticker car that I was willing to pay for. But those cars with their adds were $70k. THAT I could not afford. See the difference??? I was simply saying that the GS was $49k and I ended up getting that because I couldnt find a $55k Shelby anywhere. Thats what I went to go buy, and at that point I would have gladly spend sticker on one.(a base shelby)

Actually 2007-2010 were 5.4 iron blocks. 2011 & 2012 aluminum 5.4.

I agree on one part of using Shelby's name to make more money and that is Shelby America. What they charge for parts and add ons is astronomical. As far as the car itself, I'm not sure you will find much more car for the price. Especially when you can buy a used one with no miles. Significant discount.

And @Eagle just so we are clear I at no point bashed your car. Just the shelby name. And not even that its on your car, but that Ford allowed it to be put there. To me its just a big business ploy to recreate the demand that the 60's shelby cars now command. And proof that their marketing worked would be all the people that seem to think they are worth the thousands over sticker, and they will be hundreds of thousands of dollars in 40 years..... Too bad an 07 GT500 still in the wrapper would be lucky to fetch its own sticker value at the various auctions.

But again, I love your car. Kudos to you for getting it and getting a deal to boot. That friend you and I know that was going to buy one, had a deal worked out on one way below sticker. When he went back two days ago with his trades and check book, the owner stepped in and raised the price back to sticker. He walked and is insanely pissed. Probably wont get one at all now from anywhere because hes so pissed.

The twin turbo Cobra Jet had to place the turbos down low and in the front bumper. I can't see that working on a production car. The aftermarket twin turbo kits place the turbos up high and are tight with tubing over the engine, next to the engine and chassis. Not something I see on a production car. Labor hours for motor work would skyrocket. I don't know how the new platform is. With a turbo manifold right placing the turbo right off the head with chassis clearance may provide enough space. If they fit I doubt there would be enough room to upgrade to a larger turbo. I hope I am wrong because I would love to see a Ecoboost 5.x in the near future.

Shelby = more expensive BECAUSE Shelby.
Dealers mark these cars up because they only get a limited number of these cars a year. They hope to hook someone that is willing to pay the premium. Doesn't matter if it is called a Shelby, Cobra, Raptor, Lightning or any other name. Exclusivity is the reason people will pay more and the dealers will try to get more. Name has almost nothing to do with it.

Ford could stop using the Shelby name and save some money on the car. How much I don't know because I don't know what Ford pays Shelby per car or contract. I am all for losing the Shelby name. But I bet if Ford saves substantial money be ditching the name I somehow bet the new SVT car will be new record high pricing. I do not see the new base model SVT being priced at lower than a base 2013 Shelby.

I paid a grand under MSRP OTD for my truck. Dealers jack the price up BECAUSE Shelby. No one knows wtf an SVT vehicle is. Everyone knows Shelby and they will pay a higher price because brand. Same way people will pay a premium for Oakley's. Or Rolex. Or Louis Vitton(?). It's a brand. And Ford milked it because they knew people would pay it.

I'm also not sitting here saying anything is wrong with it. I'm merely saying you can't sit there and say a brand name has NOTHING to do with price. It does. Is it still an awesome car for $65k? Absolutely.

There are a lot more Raptors built then Shelby Mustangs. Just numbers.

I know dealers that sold the Shelby for sticker.

So if Ford went back to calling the high performance Mustang a Cobra you think they wouldn't sell? Because no Shelby? hahaha You are nuts.

And yes, on forums some people that own Shelby Mustangs swing HARD on the Shelby name. Not any of the people I know though.

The Raptors are not exactly easy to come by. But one dearler I know was able to get 6 Raptors and only 2 GT500. I bet that is kind of the norm. I just did a quick search. Hard to find it on a quick google search. 2013 GT500 was 4.885. 2012 Raptor was 13,785. Yes, different year but I don't have the time to be searching for the info. Maybe someone else can get the 2013 Raptor numbers. Carter know them off hand?
