Question, roughly how long should my ac run to drop my house from 81 to 76? When it's 85 out? I know there are a lot of variables but I'm thinking something's wrong because it can take 4-5 hrs

That's very tough to say. Like you said a ton of variables.

Is the house shaded? Are the windows super old or high Efficient? How old is the ac unit, etc etc etc.

Also home size comes into play. A basic 800-1200 square foot townhome or house will cool much faster than let's say a 2700 square foot 2 level home.

I'll give you a base number though. 2700 square feet here. If it's not brutal outside or 95+ in the dead heat of the day. I could cool that temp in about 2-1/2 hours or a little more. That's 2 levels as well.

Nope. The unit runs much better with them plugged up.

Spray them down, coat them with coil cleaner, rinse them out, straighten all the fins you can if needed.

Same for my house yesterday... I might have to rethink not having any trees in my yard. I got them taken out because they were all old and diseased, and thought Id rather have a bright green lawn, but might rethink it now.

Or I may have a ton more insulation added to the attic and look into replacing the old AC unit.

I thought so. Seemed like common sense. Coworker and I were talking about it last week and he said it could damage the motor or some shit. Doesn't it sit outside all year in the rain and snow anyways? Stupid

8-1/2 hours here yesterday. Normally set it to 74-75. Once 3 pm hits and it's 90+ it runs constantly until about 8pm then it cycles and shuts off for the night totally after 9

Well I cover mine in the winter, but yes it is exposed to the elements anyway.

We cool to 76 and let it go to 80 when we aren't home. 1176 sq ft ranch with a crawl. Look at how much my AC ran in the afternoon (3-7pm)set to 80(before I came home and you see the 76).... when it's hot your ac runs, just get used to it

Yeah I figured it was quasi normal, I have a 2200 sq feet, tri level house with vaulted ceilings and some older/some newer windows.

So seeing other people at 8 hours doesn't concern me as much...

However I do need to clean my AC coil, its in the crawl space and I fucking hate going down there...

My power was out from 2-6 so can't say my ac ran all day

My wife left the house around 10:30 this morning. I didn't turn the AC on until I got home around 4:30pm. My house was at 73 degrees when I got home. (69 degrees when my wife left). Only rose 4 degrees in 6 hours.

Not sure how often it turns on/off to stay at 69.

Man. My bill is going to suck this month.

Turned it on that first 80* day we had a week or two ago. I feel like it's been running 24/7 since.

This past week has sure changed that


And WTF, 68* I think we would be able to see our breath. Ours is at 72/73 when it's this hot out. Other times, we get some kick ass breezes if we open the back patio door and our living room windows. It's nice AF when we don't want to turn on the ac.
