The way things in this state are going, I'd buy in Wisconsin if you could. My property tax on my house went up $1k and my rental went up $1200. I'm seriously thinking about selling and moving to Wisconsin.

Me too... You have no idea the amount of wood paneling and shades of brown/beige I've encountered looking at houses in my price range

I agree, I'd just like to stay closer to "home" if that makes sense... If I move that far, I'll be over an hour from 98% of my friends, and over an hour to work... Will that extra $1,000-$1,500/yr in property tax savings get ate up in fuel and maintenance driving a truck that gets 15 mpg and $150 oil changes, $1,500 sets of tires, etc etc etc... 30-50 miles every day to work and any time I want to see friends? It's a double edged sword, and, FWIW, Wisconsin property tax isn't THAT MUCH better than Illinois. And, you have to figure in what your going to be paying in income tax to each state as well...

In the long run, I don't think it will add up to a measurable savings. Sure, you have the benefit of not living in Hellinois, but, I just don't think it makes a ton of financial sense at this point.

True, didn't look at where you currently live. For me being in Round Lake near 120/12 it would be an extra 20 minutes. At least Mchenry county isn't as bad as Lake or Crook.

It would only be an extra 20 minutes to Wisco, but, that's on top of an already 30-40 minutes I'm willing to go, at what point does it become "too much" lol. I work at 22 and Telser, between 12 and Quinten essentially.
