Gas can usually be shut off at the service main which shuts off the entire neighborhood, excess gas can be siphoned out or burned off at the neighboring houses by lighting the stove or running the furnace. I've had WAAAYYYY too many issues and close calls with the gas companies to not know this by now.

It was a little disappointing. There was no shoot out or explosion. The guy just offed himself and that was it.

At least no one other than himself was killed. I drove by the house last night and there were still plenty of cops hanging around.
