There were credible rumors that Ford was working on a legit high performance AWD system, that would make its way into other Ford vehicles.

Road & Track said:
To put the power down, Ford will employ an entirely new AWD system intended for high-output applications. It's not the same system employed on the Fusion, Escape, and MKZ. The new system will employ torque vectoring front and rear to aid handling, and after debuting in the Focus RS it will trickle down to other applications.

Before watching the video, let's go over what we know about the Ford Focus RS that will be sold in both Europe and the U.S., gleaned from trusted insiders. First of all, forget about FWD: the Focus RS is getting a brand-new AWD system—a performance-oriented version that should skew towards a 50-50 front/rear bias instead of the front-oriented system currently available on Escapes and the like. Later it will spread to other Ford and Lincoln products.

Second, it'll get a high-output 2.3-liter EcoBoost that we're hearing will exceed the output of the EcoBoost Mustang, at 310 hp. That should put it in the 325-350 hp range. If you're breathing heavily at this point, we don't blame you.

Ken Block is the man hooning this prototype. We know this because our friends at Jalopnik thought to eyeball his Instagram feed. Good thinking.

Lastly, we thought this car was going to debut in Geneva, and it still might. But Ford's Mike Levine, and this video, agree that February 3rd should be marked on your calendar. Smart money is on photos and maybe specs being revealed then. We still might not get an in-person look at the car until Geneva—but until then, watch Ken Block rock the prototype:

I don't share R&T's confidence that it will be AWD, but maybe they've got a good source for their info

How much is this going to be? I figure a loaded EB mustang is around 30, and this car will be more powerful, lighter, and AWD. If the RS is around the same price, that would make the mustang pretty useless wouldn't it. Unless you like RWD that much I guess.

I don't see that. Mustang buyers will buy the Mustang. Hot Hatch people will buy the ST or RS. I don't see either eating into the market share.

As for price? I expect its going to start low to mid 30s. Ford should price it lower than the STi. Otherwise, new sales will go to the STi, pretty much the only remaining benchmark for AWD Hot Hatches. They should be using the price point to pull Subaru buyers away from Subaru. If they price it equal to the STi, then I don't see many sales.

If its priced higher than the STi, it'll flop.

The current ST tops out just below $30K, down at $27.3K with incentives MSRP.

I'd have to imagine, if the RS is truly getting AWD (and a completely new AWD system at that) that it would command quite a bit of a price increase over the ST. My guess it would start around $35K, topping out close to $40K with options. It really depends on what other features they try and tack on. Recaro's standard or optional? Carbon Ceramic brakes? (not likely at all, but who knows?!) Center diff options (mechanical standard, electronic optional?) Wheel options? Plus all the BS Ford Sync and audio option stuff.

If it's low enough, I would not hesitate to lose a little on my ST to get an RS.

I am also in the same boat.

Also, there was an announcement that Ford would be doing 3 new hatches. Enhanced Technology, High Performance, and Ultra High Performance. The article read that the current ST would fall into the Enhanced Tech category. Which means another model to fit between the current ST and the RS. Maybe a Focus ST with the 2.3L engine?

FORD is doing what it does best - and ready to kick RS with new Performance powerhouses.

The Blue Oval's reveal of its ÂŁ250,000 GT in Detroit last week opened the flood gates to the next chapter of more affordable hot hatches.

This week sees the Focus ST hit the road but that's only a warm-up for the sizzling metal on the way.

There will be a new moniker for the hot hatches called Ford Performance with three different flavors.

It'll be 'Enhanced Technology', 'High Performance' and 'Ultra-High Performance'. The ST will sit in the first category. To make it simpler, if you were ordering a curry in order of temperature, it's Korma, Madras and Vindaloo.

The great news is that means there's an even meaner ST on the way for High Performance and a track-focused RS later this year.

For now you'll have to make-do with the Focus ST – but don't worry it's still a ST-onker.

The big story is a new diesel engine, a 2litre turbo delivering 182bhp, 0-62mph in a blink over 8 seconds and incredible hot hatch claimed economy figures of 67mpg and 110g/km.

That's like going for a curry and a night on the town and not waking up with a hangover!

However, the petrol is still king for real hot hatch boy racers. The 247bhp, 2litre turbo has a much better soundtrack and hits 62mph in 6.5 seconds. The wallet impact is worse with 159g/km and 41.5mpg but hatch buyers will prefer the performance over pocket.

Both versions start at ÂŁ22,195 while there's a choice of both five-door hatchback and estate models, the latter adding a ÂŁ1,100 premium.

While the Focus ST's ÂŁ22k starting point undercuts a 30bhp-less VW Golf GTI by approximately ÂŁ4,000, only two per cent of UK buyers go for the basics.

Most going for more kit with the ST2 and ST3 levels. The top spec ST3 gets Ford's much more plush Sync touchscreen media style which outclasses the previous button-fest dashboard and gives the car a far more exec feel.

The look is better than ever before with the spearhead now a Aston Martin-esque gaping grille with the traditional muscular additions on body. Expect those bulges to burst more in the RS look. The Tangerine Scream colour remains too but Ford say less than 10 per cent of buyers go for it. The more subtle buyer would plump for the gun metal grey.

It's great to see Ford getting back to its best. It doesn't just make cars, it builds working class heroes.

The UK has loved fast, fun and affordable Fords since the 1960s — starting with the Escort Twin Cam and Mexico all the way to the current Fiesta and Focus ST.

When I was growing up in Essex, just a few miles from their huge Dagenham plant, everyone drove Fiestas, Escorts and Capris.

When I was still learning how to spell in school, The Professionals, The Sweeney and Minder on TV were all driving the Blue Oval while my elder brother had a red Capri and a stunning Escort RS Turbo. My early cars were the XR2, Sierra and even an Orion and my love for Fords were born.

I love the latest reincarnation of the hot Fiesta - the Fiesta ST3 - which is the best-equipped ST version you can now get your hands on.

The Fiesta is the heartbeat of Ford - and this ST3 is the Fiesta that makes your heartbeat that little bit faster.

Ford have sold nearly 18million since 1976 and the UK has found a home for nearly four million of them.

It is not only the UK's best-selling new car, but also the country's top-selling used car as well. But since the 60s, Ford have always created something extra special for their cars - the fast version.

The new ST3 adds further on the ST2 kit by adding extra equipment that includes keyless entry, an upgraded stereo system with sat-nav, cruise control, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers. It also has the option of rear parking sensors.

The ST3 is available in five paint colours - Race Red as standard, Frozen White for an extra ÂŁ250, Panther Black or Spirit Blue for ÂŁ495, with Molten Orange costing ÂŁ725. Smoke Storm or Molten Orange colour themes are available for the interior.

It oozes attitude from the gaping black mesh grille and cool 17in alloys to the outsized rear spoiler.

Strangely enough, I think the Spirit Blue I drove as the least stand-out of all the colours offered - but also perhaps the least offensive. Whatever the hue, it's very horny. The top-of-the-range ST3 starts at ÂŁ19,250, with the ST2 and ST1 models remaining at ÂŁ18,250 and ÂŁ17,250 respectively.

A tuned 1.6litre turbo-injected EcoBoost petrol engine that pumps out 180bhp and sounds suitably throaty is the foundation of the ST's fun factor. And as the Fiesta is already the best-handling supermini in a class of very good cars, the ST has all the ingredients to turn up the heat for owners looking for driving fun at an accessible price.

I couldn't get bored driving this ST and while 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds is not red-hot, it is highly entertaining when you combine it with brilliant handling, courtesy of a superb chassis and a super-slick six-speed gearbox.

This is the hottest Fiesta you can buy – there's also strong belief from within Ford that an RS version will follow.

Ford are once again kings of the working class heroes.

Ummmmm 3 door? Or are Americans all too fat for that?

Ford killed the 3 door Focus far as I know. Its all 5 door now.

Though the UK still gets a 3 door Fiesta.

The question/statement is if you spend 40k on this car you are a straight up fucking retard. If you spend more than 16k on this car you are the same thing as the 40k person IMO
