I’ve posted several things on the car since I got it, but thought it’s time to put stuff in one place. Picked up the car with 61k on it in 2008. I’d been looking for a wagon for awhile when this popped up. They get snatched up quickly, and the timing was always wrong. The day this popped up I drove to this shady dealer on the IL/IN line to check it out.

Was expecting the worst, but not too bad. Car was clearly neglected, but miles were low. Every wheel had a different brand tire, covered in scratches, one fender was repainted and dull. Front seats broken, missing body clips, misfires with the slightest throttle input.

I spent the first 6 months doing all the maintenance. Brakes, tires, vanos solenoids, plugs, coils, fixed seats. Then full wet sand and buff and paint correction.

I wanted more power, but I’m lazy and didn’t want to go too deep into it. So I put in a the biggest FMIC I could fit in it, some cone filters and a canned MHD stage 1+ tune and went to the track. Ended up with a 12.4@111. Since then I’ve added a multiple spray progressive meth system, and replaced the mid pipe with mandrel and used Tunerpro to custom tune it on an E40 blend. Haven’t been back to the track since, but the car absolutely rips now.

I recently found a set of sport wheels for it with newer tires. Refinished them and did some other suspension work. I like corners but value my comfort, so nothing crazy. Stock BMW sport springs, Bilstein B4’s, stock front bar with polys, poly thrust arm bushes, rear M5 bar with polys. With the all wheel drive, 275/30 in back, and 245/35 in front it handles really well and still doesn’t beat me up.

Yeah, if I do another...the wheel will be removed. I did it last summer on a hot day. Took 4-5 hours. Sweat my ass off, difficult to reach the angles I needed to get the needle though. It was cheap to do (kit was about $35 shipped). Totally transformed the feel , absolutely love the texture and the added girth of the wheel. Highly recommended

Yeah, it’s a cliche, but these are the definition of a love hate relationship. I have been having fuel system trouble since last fall. It ended up being a bunch of things that were totally fine until they weren’t. Had to drop the power down about 150hp to cope with lack of fuel delivery. Replaced entire fuel system, but some leaking gaskets causing boost leaks on one bank coupled with a post cat o2 sensor not allowing the WB upstream sensor to calibrate was the root cause.

I took it out for a night drive last night to pick up my wife from her sisters place and it drove amazing. These things are so good when sorted as an overall package, but can turn to hot garbage quickly...so you really have to stay on top of it.

If I wasn’t at the maximum output of my fuel system id throw on some 17/19t’s off eBay. I think I could get real close to running 10’s. I might throw on a wet shot and get it a little deeper in the 11’s instead cause it’s cheap. It’s kind of dumb since I don’t even take it out much, but it’s a lot of fun smoking fast cars in the wagon.

So, been battling a problem with the car since last November, and after months of fixing stuff that isn’t broke turned out to be a clogged cat. There was really no way to check before removal so I just chanced it and preemptively bought downpipes. One of the cores is melted/cracked. Took about 3 hours to get it out. While I have the space to work on it, doing inlets too. Nice to have a few weeks off before I start the new job!

What meth kit are you running? Also, what exhaust tips did you put on there?

I've got a 2008 535i w/ basic upgrades. 14t turbos (RBones, larger FMIC, inlets, tuning etc). I had a similar issue with melted cats. However, my car came with them. After a bunch of troubleshooting I just decided to replace the turbos and downpipes when I discovered the issue.

Inlets! This thing is going to rip Ron.
Cant have too much room left on stock fuel pump, what are you going to do for fueling?
The 535’s have a more stout lpfp, it’s about what you get from a 450 Walbro. I just replaced my entire fuel system, so I’m hoping it’ll be enough. I’m going to pull the screen out of the HPFP before it is back on the road too

Snow performance MAFU. It ties into the TMAP, and has a progressive controller. I’m running a cm5 at the inlet to my charge pipe, a cm3 at the TB, and have two cm2’s in the intake manifold pointing at cyl 2 and 5

Let me know! That will be my next mod :D. also let me know how bad the install is. It took 3 hours to get old ones out?
I’ll report here, I’m leaving them out until I’m done with the inlets. Seems like plenty of room. I didn’t have to drop the subframe. I am taking a long break and will probably start back up tonight. After selling my cats, I pocketed about $350 after paying for everything

Great job on the lower grill and steering wheel.
Paint looks good and no one would expect it to be fast.

:fy:
I’m actually going to sell my fat tires and putting my stock rims on with better rubber so it looks even more sheepish. Plus, they are way lighter. I miss the four wheel burnouts with my old setup. Car feels too composed with wide tires. I like the smooth ride with all the extra sidewall
