In Da Hood
a long movie indeed, though it didnt feel like it was that long. I will agree you have to be in it to win it so to speak. (requires attention). that being said you are rewarded with an excellent cast and acted story. wife watched with me and she got confused easily, may have to do with her not knowing more about Hoffa and mobs. not really sure.

All in all, if you have the time to invest and have interest in the story line id say give it a shot

So I am just straight up obsessed with this movie and the real life events in the movie. Hoffa's dissapearence, JFK's assassination, mob life etc. I just listened to an hour long podcast with the author/investigator Charles Brandt who spent 5 years following Sheeran and obtaining his confessions.

I turned on my TV and what do you know, there is a free trial of HBO on Comcast currently. Time to start watching The sopranos for the first time!

The cars were the real stars in the movie. At first I thought a lot of the scenes were not needed adding to the length of the film. But the scenes with the cars and hotels helped you travel back in time and really be a part of a historical mystery that very few know about; Who killed Hoffa?! I think the length of the film is symbolic to how things worked back then. A phone call was different back then. How we got our news. It took time unlike today with a simple tweet or social media. IMHO... a masterpiece.

It would have been better as a 4 or 5 part miniseries.

Also, the title situation was weird. It felt like Scorsese titled it "I Heard You Paint Houses" and it was changed later. And honestly that would have been a *far* better title.

EDIT: ah I think that's the name of the book. Makes sense.

I watched about 80 minutes late on Thanksgiving and couldn't make it any longer as I was getting tired. The setup of this movie is a bit slow and there wasn't too much action.

I'll give it another shot, but I think that the mini-series approach mentioned above would have been better. I've been watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix which is fantastic.

Only thing I got out of it was old people don’t look good beating up people and we know where Hoffa is.

This was Sheeran's account of what happened and what made it into the book about his life. Many people, including the FBI, say this isn't what happened. Well at least that Sheeran wasn't the shooter. Many claim it was to put a cherry on top of his book so it would sell well. So he could leave his daughters with some money from its sales. I think many of the other hits were very plausible and had been rumored right after the hits.

It is amazing that if more than 1 person was involved in Hoffa's disappearance, that it never came out before this book. Unless everyone who was involved in the hit was also knocked off. There are a couple of stories that involved people other than were in the car in this movie. So it will be interesting to see if anyone ever provides evidence of what exactly happened to Hoffa.

Done. First off lets just get it out of the way. Yes, it is definitely a long movie. But hell, Casino is damn near 3 hours. But this movie does move at a much slower pace than Casino. Honestly tho, for me, it didn't feel as long as it was, but you really can't just casually decide watch this movie, it's something you have to be ready commit to

With that said, I did really enjoy this movie, as a Scorsese fan, and a fan of everyone in this. Even tho Pesci was a lot more subdued in this movie,

Also want to add the setting, wardrobe design, music, is everything you'd expect from a Scorsese piece. The cars in this are fantastic as well. That Hudson that de-aged De Niro drives was freaking gorgeous.

Pesci was playing a real life person. So he played him as he was because of that. I think he did great. The De Niro was ok but you can tell his age changes his acting. Even though the re-aging effects looked great, his hunched-over posture, head position, and walk killed it. That stomping of the gut at the grocery store was almost sad to watch.

Pacino as Hoffa was very off for me. Maybe because I think Jack Nicolson did a great job in the movie Hoffa. His look, mannerisms, and voice were much more like Hoffa's.

Wardrobe, sets, and the cars were on point for sure. Much of the music seemed out of place to me.

I thought I read that his confession was total bullshit. True or false?

I think there are more credible reports of the disappearance than Sheeran's.

A couple of people in the investigation thought Chuckie O'brian (Hoffa's step-son) was not involved, as in the movie, and the investigation ruined his life due to it. An interesting side note, the car was borrowed from a mob higher up. Chucky did have a 40 pound Salmon in the car as it was signed for my him and the friend's mother said she and Chucky cut the fish up when he delivered it. The car wash where the car was cleaned said they knew the car but had never seen Chuckie or the car's owner when shown pictures of them. So someone else must have cleaned the car. Which wasn't Chucky's story. Years later they revisited the car in the case to use DNA testing of a hair found in the car. It was Hoffa's hair.

It would have been better as a 4 or 5 part miniseries.

Also, the title situation was weird. It felt like Scorsese titled it "I Heard You Paint Houses" and it was changed later. And honestly, that would have been a *far* better title.

I think the movie could have been a little shorter. Much of the parts after the Jimmy hit was not needed. It could have easily been condensed down.

All in all, I think it was an ok movie. I think the reason it had the draw it did was the main 3 actors. Although the movie could have stood on its own had those three been replaced with other actors. The story is good enough. The rest of the cast did a very good job. Di Niro acting was good besides his age issues. But Pacino really was the wrong fit here. Unless you are a filmmaker trying to pull on nostalgia to make a movie work.

I watched about half of this movie so far and it just seems to be entertaining from a Italian crime movie like casino and goodfellas but there is literally no compelling story in this. Just the same story points borrowed from better movies with the same actors with remixing the same type of characters. It’s fun, but if this movie didn’t have star power in it, it would be quite boring and repetitive. Also is it just me or does young Robert Deniro move like an 80 year old cripple? :ROFLMAO:

I didn't think Pacino was the right actor to play Hoffa tbh. Hoffa had connections but he wasn't a mobster, and after Godfather and Scarface, Pacino is kinda recognized as the ultimate mobster. Hoffa wasn't Italian either and of course Pacino had to do his signature hoarse voice shouting thing. Historical accuracy aside, I found Pacino's acting to be very amusing and almost hilarious! Esp after he gets out of prison onword. That meeting at the restaurant where the dude shows up wearing shorts was epic! Man if Hoffa was that big of a dumbass and constantly opened his mouth like that it's no wonder he was killed in real life! I definitely gotta see Jack Nicholsons portrayal of Hoffa now.

Another interesting thing is this movie was actually De Niros idea. He read the book 15 years ago and told Scorsese this should be our next masterpiece. I think then it sort of became a reunion of trying merge his favorite director and favorite supporting actors in what will likely be their final movie about the mob life. So they tried there best to make this movie as a bunch of old farts using the CGI. In an interview Pacino said there was a scene he had to run up a flight of stairs and the de-aging FX couldn't help with that!

Also really liked the subtle elements of comedy Scorsese adds to movies. Just off the top of my head some other things I thought were funny were the watermelon scene, the fish scene, showing the truck being totally empty when deniro delivered it, Ray Romano grilling deniro and the portrayal of fitzsimmons guy being a fat slob.

I kind of agree. I just think it was meant to show other people involved and how being a mobster typically includes having a short life and violent end. Which I think everyone already knows. lol Only the one guy in Florida said something like "Loved by all and died of natural causes".

You could tell the people that they REALLY didn't like because those were the ones that said "Shot in the face 8 times" Christ what a way to go.
