Over the last many years not a day had gone by I didn't want to drive my Mustang, but both the old GT500 and especially my current Fox were just NOT even possible to commute in. But just a few weeks ago, I just had a Rafiki moment - "It is time." Consequently I picked up a 2014 Mustang GT just last week:
- 6M Trans
- Black Exterior
- Black Interior
- Track Pack
-- Brembo brakes
-- 3.73 Rearend Ratio
-- Torsen Limited Slip Diff
-Recaro Cloth Seats
- Sync
A few pics -
Picking it up:
Just pulled into driveway:
In the garage (temporarily, Wife wasn't home yet)
Side by side with the Fox:
Early impressions:
The 5.0 Coyote engine is AMAZING. At the risk of sounding like a typical Ford Coyote/Cobra snob - if you haven't driven one you don't understand. On my test drive it took a few heavy foot romps to sell me. Very strong, smooth, and linear power delivery.
Handling is far superior to the previous gen S197's I've driven (to be expected I guess given the advances in years, but still), and light years ahead of my 07 GT500 (perhaps a low bar).
Transmission - Good feel, but requires deliberate placement. Not incompetent, but...well, I already miss the Tremec in the GT500. A likely upgrade in shifter coming. Also, fuck reverse. I want to kill the engineer that decided that made sense. The clutch is very light and easy to use, but does need full engagement for clean shifts. As thats how I've always preferred clutch feel its no problem
The inevitable performance comparisons to my GT500 are forthcoming; at this point I haven't really had a thorough chance to push the GT enough for many comparisons. I'll hold opinions for a full review until I can get on this thing a bit harder.
I will say that the GT is far more livable than the GT500 I had, even when mine was more or less new. Very happy to have and look forward to driving it everyday.
Future plans:
