Limits of a stock 4R70W??

Kinda shoppin around for an auto setup. Trying to find some one that's wanting to unload everything. Wanting to know for the hell of it what the limits of a stock 4r70w is? I've heard some people making good power from a stock 4r70w with a manual valve body.

A stock one will hold up for some time with 500crank hp. Push more than that and it is on borrowed time. Plus with a used one who knows how abused it already is. A rebuild with good & extra clutches will result in 600-700 crank hp. Some more easy mods and you can build them to hold well over 1000hp.

i have a 4r70w, pedal set, shifter, correct yoke for your stock driveshaft, and a stock converter (works great with eaton setups).

All you need is either a manual valve body or a baumnator electric trans controller, an 8 bolt flexplate, and a trans cooler.

My brother is pushing around 500 rwhp on bone stock 4R70W with J-mod[home made shift kit].Car has around 300 passes at the track ,94K miles ,has gone 1.5 60' .

Transmissions are not rated by horsepower, they are rated by torque capacity. Based on technical data that I have seen, the 4R70W in stock form is rated at approx. 500 ft-lbs. but can be upgraded to handle quite a bit more.

Good deal. You can let Blue03cobra have that sweet deal. I don't really know yet what I'm going to do so I don't want to tie that up for some one else. Thanks though.

Going great. I'm all done with it for now. Got it tuned last Saturday by the great Bob Kurgan. I'm going to get a different waste gate and a meth kit and go back for more in a month or two. We got 672hp on 16lbs and 93 oct gas. The car drives fantastic. I like the turbo so much more then the 2.8 KB I had on there before. Got the .81 exhaust A/R on the 76mm GTS, so the turbo starts to spool aboot 2500-3000rpm and keeps on going. Drives like a rocket.

lenntech sells thiers complete for 1500-2200 so assume in that price range


i would say use PROFORMANCE in Elburn, illinois. Guy builds a helluva trans!
(hes close to me too so i can just drop that 4r70w off for ya )

Don Stanley is a good guy to work with and I have had about 6 transmissions from him for different cars, from c4's, AOD's, AODE's, and TH400 for Ford (950HP), never broke one of them in 15 years!
