FS: i7-4790k processor /Corsair DDR3 RAM EVGA FTW 1060 6GB GPU - NEW GPU

Hey everyone,

Parting out my old computer setup. For now, I've got a processor and DDR3 RAM ready to go.

Processor works 100% with zero issues. Never overclocked and has been liquid cooled its entire life. I7-4790K - Link to processor: http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz

Newly added:

EVGA FTW 1060 6GB GPU - factory sealed, new from EVGA. This is a replacement for my old 970 card that fried and was replaced by the 1060 under warranty. I don't know if there is going to be an issue registering this card, but please keep that in mind. I would suggest registering it and see what happens. Considering the stellar service they provide, I don't think there will be any issues, but, I thought a potential buyer should know.

Bundle all three of the items, I'll cut you a deal.

Part number is 06G-P4-6366-KR

Link to EVGA site:

Cheapest online so far is EVGA @ $285.

Price : $250. Will consider shipping as well if need be.

I'm not a computer guy, but I have a computer I had purchased in 2011 that has an i3. I don't even recall the make of my PC, maybe an HP?

How easy/difficult would it be to swap out? Would it require other upgrades that just wouldn't be worth it?

It is easy to swap out the processor. You just need a splash of thermal paste for it and you're good to go.

The only issue would be if your motherboard allowed for it. The 4790K uses an LGA1150 socket.

If you have the model number of your motherboard, post it up so I can verify if they are compatible.

Going from an i3 to the 4790K will make a significant difference.

You can always increase the RAM as well, depending on what you've got now. If you're gaming, liquid cooling for about $100 would be a good choice, I.E. Corsair H100i. Otherwise, no other upgrades really needed.

I don't really do any PC gaming as it tends to be more expensive to keep up with and I barely play my consoles. But I do like to copy my blu-rays to my PC and then stream them via Plex. It currently takes me 5+ hours to copy a movie. And every now and then, I get a Plex error that says it is having a tough time keeping up with the stream from the computer.

I gotcha.

Could be an issue of processor/RAM and your DVD drives.

Hard drive will also make probably the biggest difference, especially an SSD which has over 500MB read/write capabilities.

If the Plex error is happening while watching video at home where the Plex is, it's most likely the CPU having issues keeping up with the transcoding.

Also if you have a HP tower, good chances are you don't have a standard 24pin power supply so just swapping in a new motherboard/ram/CPU will also require a new power supply if your HP has a proprietary one. Sometimes maybe even a new case

Copying a movie from disc to PC will always take awhile due to disk read speeds on CD/DVDs and there is not much you can do about that

If it isn't a direct swap, I don't know I'd spend the money on upgrading everything else when it might just be simpler to get a new computer in a year or two.

I've spent silly money on the Mustang this year, so I don't want to get another $500+ on a computer upgrade that isn't 100% necessary.

When I get home, I'll try and get all the necessary info of what the computer has. What's the best way for that? F-something on start up?
