27 years of oil leaks, and somebody put a compression fitting with a pipe bent over on the oil gallery side. leaks, leaks, leaks.

was crossing my fingers it had the crank replaced at sometime with a longer nose snout for the oil pump, but nope. factory early narrow piece, so I don't think the engine bottom end was ever replaced before.

bare block on the way to be cleaned, 05u block casting. some say its the stronger earlier casting, but who knows? Japanese tuning is always a mystery.

thanks to some friends, it's now a clean whore...... need to measure the bores and make sure nothing is out of round. then time to order pistons. anybody a dealer for cp and can you hook it up ? i'll send nudes

the ever so hard to find the USA rb26 torque plate so cylinder boring the correct way. I don't want to half ass any of this.

I am glad you are going down this road and not me. The "While I am in there" took my Z to a level that my credit card did not appreciate many years back.

then this is where things got even worst, I knew the car had a rough life in Japan, but whatever. Visual inspection before we took off the head saw one cracked valve guide on the intake side. After tear down, 3 cracked intake valve guides, some wear on the valve stem shafts that isn't to my liking and a chip valve (assuming from cracked valve guide)

Head is going out to be cleaned next, then I need to decide which route to go. Before finding all of this it was a simple bucket, cams and springs only. now it's replacing guides, seats, valves, valve job, new seals, so on and so on, but it will be right when it's done. so that piece of mind you can't really put a $$ amount on. do it right the first time right?

bottom of the guides are cracked off and missing, easier to replace the guide.

Does the RB26 get solid lifters or the hydraulic ones?
