Thank you! The color is Gun Metal.

It's tricky though, to be a "stoplight commando." The car uses a complex engine/transmission "VDC" that pretty much puts you in an all-or-nothing mode, for the launch. If I don't put it in the 'Race" mode, and just try to hold the brake while creeping the RPM up to a creep point (like with a standard automatic transmission)...between the turbo not providing boost (at the non-Race lock-out of 2000 RPM!!!!) and the dual-clutch not being totally engaged, my Nissan Xterra Offroad will beat it across the street. Of course a split second later, I'm off and gone.

You get 3 seconds to launch before the CPU (in Race mode) tells everything to "cool it." You have to learn to time this with drag-strip "Christmas trees" and traffic lights, or you would look foolish as your car...with a mind of its own...starts shutting down from optimum.

Nissan does this to protect the $24,000 transmission under warranty.

Ain't no such. Computer-controlled dual clutch automatic feeding AWD.

What you get stock is approximately 2.9 secs 0-60MPH, and 1.7 secs or better 60' with stock tires on decent surfaces/temperatures.

There is an argument among the GTR owners Site as to whether the "automatic mode" shifts better/faster than the "manual mode." All I can say is that "Auto" is extremely fast shifting...I find myself hitting the RPM limiter too often in "Manual."

The trade-off is that the car fights you for straight-line performance; this doesn't bother those that want it for it's ability to corner at the track.

The actual shift takes place in the same amount of time in auto mode and manual mode, the difference is, the TCU knows when to shift and won't hit the rev limiter, in manual mode, you have to tell it to shift and then there is a lag time between the time you hit the shift button and the time the car actually receives that message.

They argue though that it's faster in "Manual;" some do anyway, and some the opposite. The further claim (un-proven) is that "Manual" allows you to get 500 RPM closer to Redline. It would have to be "logged" to prove this, and I don't know if anyone has.

aint no person who can shift faster than a computer. now, if the ideal shift points aren't set in the tcm then ya, i can see how a manual would be better than an auto.

regardless...the manual would come in handy in the twisties...hands down, that is the best scenario for a manual.

We're talking manual mode vs automatic mode. They are both automatic though.

Correct.

There are paddle-shifters on my steering wheel. I can for instance start out in "Auto Mode" and at any time use the paddles; it then stays in "Manual Mode," (doing cute things like automatically bumping the RPMs as it down-shifts later). I am NOT able to dump and feather the clutch, such as what would be possible on my Camaro Z-28 6-sp, even if I start in "Manual Mode;" it's not a true "Manual."

I believe the shift points are pre-set, but again, it has been said that using "Manual" allows you to get closer to the 7000 RPM redline. I can't confirm this.

There are aftermarket CPU programmers that may allow shift-point and other parameters to be adjusted. At this point, as far as I know, they haven't the firmware yet for 2012 GTRs. (Cobb, etc.)

so in manual mode, even if you don't shift via ze paddles, the car shifts for you at a predetermined point?

so can you downshift at any point? hypothetical situation, if you are going XXmph and you wish to downshift to Y gear from Z gear but doing so would put you at 6100rpms after the shift and in automatic mode downshifts will only happen if new RPM is <4500 after the downshift, will the manual mode allow you to override the computer parameters for downshift?

No, at least not on the 2012. It won't shift at all, and if you hit Redline, it starts to deliberately go into a less-powerful, drop-down mode. You DON'T want to hit Redline on a dragstrip; it doesn't just "cough" and stay at high RPM. (like my Camaro, and my FZ1 motorcycle)

The moment you hit the paddles (while in Auto Mode) you go into "Manual Mode, and STAY THERE. You can't (at least I've never tried it) downshift into/past Redline...for instance 6500 in "Auto" 2nd gear, and try down-shifting to 1st. I don't know if it would "refuse" or just go into redline shut-off mode...which would essentially be the same thing. I'm guessing "refuse," but I'm not going to try it.

If you're very good (and I'm not even close to being there yet!), another
reason to launch in "manual" would be that MAYBE some gearing is such that winding out to the Auto Mode's shift point might not achieve the best time. In-other-words, shifting BEFORE the Auto Mode would do it, would be faster. In other gears, perhaps the supposed extra RPM before redline, that "Manual" is claimed to have, might also be an advantage.

Things happen very fast in 1st gear; it's VERY EASY to hit the redline in "Manual" and that will wreck your time.

If I can find it, there's a cute video floating around with 3 people in a new GTR, videoing the dashboard under a full launch. I'll post it...

$24,000 for a trans?!?! Did I read that wrong? I never thought I'd say it but that makes me happy I was only out $2600 when my trans shit the bed. Beautiful car though.

You read it correctly!

People used to turn off the VDC and launch at higher RPM, and void their warranty. Now, the new launch control fixes your Max RPM at 4000 while you depress the brake; you launch by finessing the brake and throttle thereafter.

Here's the cute video I spoke of (note 4000 RPM!!!)
