The comp lifters for 3800's are worse than the stockers...if anything they might need a little more oil pressure. With the RR on there, maybe an oil restricted pushrod to help.

They can be, but they have new stuff now and they are changing their line up a bit.

More oil pressure - i thought the point of the oil restricted push rod was to keep more oil in the bottom end. Also, that will retain more oil pressure in the lifter.

I am thinking at 5400 rpm there should be plenty of oil pressure in the lifter. Therefore the valves are not closing because the preload is gone. Since the rocker arm geometry is already set it may help to get shorter push rods.

Either way, the guys seem to be on the right track with a possible valve train issue.

Thanks fishy... yea goal isnt to make a certain hp (well actually more like make at LEAST something respectable lol), more like specific et times and trap speeds... though I think we were all in agreement that besides running at the track, the dyno is going to be the easiest way to do the best tuning, and most importantly safely... along with less stress on the car than doing 1/4 passes...

i cant wait for spring!

well guess what, the comp "OE length" 7.050 rods were actually 7.086

left the HS 1.6 rr's in it and swapped in a lower mile set of stock pushrods (measuring 7.050-7.060) and the problem is gone. valves were being hung open for sure.

its a whole new animal now (well it will be now that we can tune it with proper airflow over 4500 rpm)

looks like a set of shorter pushrods are on the list, im betting even with the thicker head gaskets the pushrods will be ~ 7inch with 0-.010 preload, which should help it even more up top. i probably shoulda used my adjustable pushrod checker to measure em all while i had it apart, but we really just wanted to see how it'd do with the OE pushrods once i found the length discrepancies. this goes to show you that you can never take anything for granted...i ASSumed that they were correct, if id only spent the extra time during the motor build to dbl check...we wouldnt have had this issue

stay tuned for when its fully tuned :s00ls: :fy:

went to the track today, after the first few runs we tossed tommy's qtp's on it...best et was the last run at 12.4x at 109 with a massive pop just before the traps (plugs looked great and weren't showing signs of bad fueling or glazing, the damn laptop froze so we dont have any data but im guessing it went over 200kpa and the damn thing may have went lean
its wounded for sure as it got to kevy's with euro pushing it down the last half of kevins street :rollpicard:

kev was still getting used to the car especially after we fixed the pushrods, was steadily getting faster each run for the most part...

best trap was the second to last run, 14psi 15*same tune as the dyno for the most part, just a bit added up top on the maf

R/T 1.913
60ft 2.414

1/8th 8.464 mph 94.19
1000 10.721
1/4 12.64 mph 116.88

sometime this week i gotta get down there and take a look at it and find the misfire/popping culprit....*sigh*, schlims job never ends...but at least he went faster than 15's hahahah
