The original iPhone had a recessed 3.5 jack. All of the others have it on top without the need of a special plug or trimming your current one.

Apple has their own special plug, cause they can get away with it. However, I did hear there is a country, dont remember which one, that has a law stating all cell phones must use micro USB. So Apple made adapters. I hear you can snag some on the interweb.

The first two were you're right. My first iPod was a 3rd gen and it had a dock connector port.


My original USB cable from my iPod(came with a FireWire and USB) charges my 3GS just fine

You got lucky! My touch and GF 3GS would not charge without the adapter. I still played music. They had them at the apple store for like ten bucks. Made playing things and charging through the dock impossible.

Yeah it kinda gets annoying that they use their own special cable when everything else uses the same universal shit, but if you think about it SO many apple nutswingers have all there shit set up to work with all those special plugs and accessories now, I think apple switching away from their plug to micro USB would piss more people off than it would excite.

I heard something about some of the cases for the iPhone4 will not work with 4s due to the light sensor being slightly moved. That would only affect some cases obviously. Someone told me to check cnet but I couldnt find it. Mabye im blind.

I just use the rubber bumper. Protects the phone and doesn't look stupid.

Thats what I was probably going to get anyway. On my current phone I just used the hard case that covers the back and sides.

I have this case, and love it. Offers slightly more protection than just the rubber, but doesn't get bulky at all like the Otterbox

Actually, I do work in the construction field. I use the Otterbox and like I've mentioned; It has saved me from quite a few drops (around 4-5 feet high) without and reprocussions on the phone. Plus, with the Otterbox, its also water resistant. (not waterproof, but resistant). So if I use it in the rain, it won't do any damage, but if I drop it in water about a foot deep then most likely can damage the phone. (not sure as I haven't tested that part out)

Yeah if you're in construction or get violent with your phones I guess I can see the need for an otterbox, but otherwise it kinda ruins the sleekness of the phone.

I've got a speck candy shell case right now.

Not very bulky and does its job.

I did fall on my phone a few months ago and cracked my digitizer but most cases wouldn't have prevented that.

I work in a facilities so I am constantly climbing, crawling, and I just generally beat up my phones.

And BTW, I dropped my iPhone into a foot of water, grabbed it right back out. Initially only worked on speakerphone, but then after a day started working fully again.
