Default Dasfinc’s Financial Mistake

Picked up something immensely stupid the other week, looking forward to seeing how much of a stomach I have for it.

2006 Land Rover Range Rover HSE. Has every option available minus the Supercharger, Buckingham Blue over Cream.

The most recent owner sold me the truck for half what he has paid in Repairs on the truck over the past 6 months.... I’m gambling that the primary big ticket items (Air Suspension and Transfercase) are enough to stave off 4 digit repairs for some time. Also came with brand new tires as an added perk.

Fixed most the little stuff already (driver door handle, hazy headlights, rear top mount light, coolant tank (float failure so it was saying low coolant even though it’s full), so just waiting to sell the other trucks before I put this on the road.

This one was in the low 90's given its options.

More things will break its just a fact. And what ever the previous owner fixed it will probably break again. Its a rover trust me it will. I have a P38 sitting in my driveway right now fixing it for my brother.

It’s not even the big things that I’d be worried about, it’s the small things that are ungodly expensive and hard to come by unless straight from the dealer. I remember helping my cousin with her dumb 04(?) Range Rover and everything seemed to have to be ordered for it and the silliest things cost so much money.

I paid $120 for a third brake light, $57 for a coolant overflow bottle, and $12 for a correct license plate bracket. I find that all pretty reasonable, and I haven't come across any single part outside of the Suspension and or Drivetrain that are egregiously expensive yet (but I'm sure I'll find them soon enough).

I fixed the Headlights and the drivers door handle for free, which was a perk (The Headlights are something stupid north of $1000 each brand new still).

Granted the center console has buttons cast into it and it’s $270 new.... I’m still debating how to address that.

These are failures that I bought that the truck had pre-existing, they likely have all been that way for weeks/months.

It's been surprisingly good actually. Fires right up and runs strong after sitting for a week or more while I've been driving the mustang.

I've fixed a few small things and identified a few others.

Fixed the Terrian response button, the exterior door handle, and the center console release.

The Park Sensor system has some kind of fault, haven't bothered looking into it yet.

Squeaky serpentine, bought the belt, no idea how to replace it yet.

Slight idle fluxiation, probably a Vacuum leak somewhere that I'll hunt down once the garage is setup at teh new place.

Still rides exceptionally smooth, pulls strong, brakes smooth, quiet ride, no CEL's, SUPER comfortable.

The 'Major' things that go wrong on these trucks have all been recently replaced/rebuilt within the past 6 months basically, which is the only reason why I bought it as the recent service history was basically a checklist of "Most expensive repairs these trucks need".

We will see how it holds up over winter; granted I'm going to give it another once-over before it gets too much colder out to check for maintenance items that it may need soon.

Still in Wheaton, actually back closer to you again I think (off Mack road).

That's an 03-05 right?Front bumper is same style as mine, but the Grill and Headlights are the Pre 06 lift style.

The BMW V8 I've heard a LOT of horror stories about Vs. the Jaguar one in mine. Granted mine being an 06 is the bastard year in the middle of cutting things over.
