Wait, what?

From what I understand, the extent of building these is doing upgraded clutches. The local shop here quoted $1850 for parts and labor, but that's with the trans out.

I was going to do a converter while it was out, which is $1300.

All of that was assuming that they were going to repair the trans. I never got the repair quoted out, but I can only imagine that Ford wanted a full replacement because it was comparable in price to the repair. I've looked up the price of 10R80 and it's over $4000. Which is enough for me to spend the time to go back to stock and pray nothing comes up and they don't send out an FSE or anything.

Sell 80s and 90s vehicles to fund a properly built 10R80.

1850 seems pretty fair for a refresh if itís anything like the 6r80 it comes out in a couple hours, I didnít look very hard but all Iíve seen for them was the clutches

Have you considered a used trans? I did a quick search on eBay and found one out of a raptor for $2k. I bet if you call some of the bigger local junkyards you can get a decent unit if you just want to unload the car. You can find a decent shop to swap it for about $1k? Not sure what the book time for labor is on this though?

That was the price for just the clutches. And that was assuming that Ford was gunna do the repair.

That will probably be the plan of Ford denies the claim.

It's a known problem, there is a TSB on it. But no the car hasn't been there yet.

Dude I'm not trying to be a dick, but you modded the car to make almost double the power it does stock. What's a couple grand more for a trans rebuild??? You didnt build this car on a credit card, did you?

With that logic when does it stop? When is it not "just a couple more grand"? It all adds up.

And it's literally just a blower slapped in it. Since when does that qualify as a "build"?

on one hand that trans was going to fail at some point without the power adder, on the other hand gotta pay to play there's no guarantee the motor or trans will last a day with a blower on the car

That's why I'm pushing back a little bit. Because I know the engine will be next. At I really don't wanna drop another $20k+ into a car with an MSRP of $50k just to go high 9s, and it only be worth less than $20k when it's all said and done in 6-7 years.

I got this car as a DD but I'm super impulsive, thus the blower.

hopefully you get it sorted and get the pass you want, im backing off on the track this year i may run a couple times for fun but the car did what I wanted, I have more fun jacking around on my way to work knowing my chances of snapping an axle or drive shaft is minimal on the street

Just because they're using it to get to work, doesn't mean it's their daily. They're just driving it daily, sometimes.

So is it an expensive fix? Expensive part?

If it can be fixed during a rebuild, for a small cost, then I would think it would be worth considering. If it fixes the trans issue and you have a trans with more holding capacity, you probably fine for a while. As long as you kept the power level reasonable.

But it is your car and money. Hopefully what ever you decide to do works out reasonably well.

My understanding is that Fords process for it is to simply replace the transmission. And the "build" part of it is different parts than the repair. And done by separate people.

I hope you keep the car and I strongly suggest calling PowerbytheHour in Florida for a built trans.

There are more than just clutches available now for these cars.

Even if it means the car sitting for a while Id get the best trans you can afford to put in it and by that I mean not a stock replacement. Do the converter while its out now too as I believe Circle D is doing exchange only on the converters.

I just hope it doesnt get put back to stock and sold.

I paid roughly $1300 to get my trans rebuilt on the old 2V. It was well worth it. I never had a single problem after that.
