Which member is a Chevy Tech? I have a question about warranty coverage if you're able to help me out.

I have a 2011 Colorado crewcab. I bought it last year along with a bumper to bumper warranty. My 4-low on the transfer case is shot. The truck was making a noise, the shop I had diagnose the issue said 4-low was gone. 4-high is fine. They said not to bother since it's unlikely I'd ever use 4-low. But id like it fixed. Will my warranty be void since my truck has been lifted?

I mean depends on how high the lift is and how large those tires are. Only thing you can really do is take it to a GM dealer and see if they mention the lift or not. Bring the trunk in clean, no mud on it etc.

Chances are you will be fine, it doesn't look that extreme and a Colorado isn't really a mudding off-road truck. But technically if they wanted to deny your claim they could.

The lift is 4". Tires are 285/70/17. Stock tires were 265/70/17.

I wouldn't attempt it. I don't have the original parts anymore, plus the cost of finding new parts and the cost of swapping the lift wouldn't be worth it. If I end up having to pay for the transfer case it would cost about $1300 with labor.

I just reread your first post.... You said bumper to bumper warranty? Your b2b would be expired right now being a 2011. This repair should obv fall under the power train warranty. Are you referring to a service contract you purchased at time of sale? I know a lot of dealers mislead customers telling them the service contract is a b2b warranty

Also if your looking for assistance on this claim, take it to Webb Chevrolet in Plainfield. That is one of my dealers. (I'm an account manager for GM)

Or I believe @syP works at a Buick gmc dealer in Naperville. He's a good guy as well.

I have never used 4-low. Previous owner maybe had.

No it was not. Only thing I didn't change were the wheels. Those were on the truck when I purchased it.

I bought the truck from Naperville Toyota on February, 1 2014. That's when I bought the warranty. It is a bumper to bumper warranty. 4/48,000. I am hesitant with taking the truck to Dan wolf Chevy for the repair(this is where Toyota takes it when I bring it in for warranty claims since they own both dealers). The service advisors are not the nicest to deal with.

Take it to another Chevrolet dealer then. This should fall under the GM powertrain warranty so that will take precedence over any optional warranties you purchased at time of sale. Being a 4 inch lift you will be fine. I don't even bother looking at one unless it's at least a 6 inch lift or above. It's not worth my time otherwise.

I'm just trying to imagine what broke to make 4 low inop, but 4 high works fine. They use the same actuator, it just spins in a different direction for 4low.

Which dealer would you recommend taking it to that is friendly so-to-speak with lifts?

I'd like to know myself. The shop said that 4-high is fine, but when it's switched to 4-low it makes all sorts of noises like something is rattling around in the case. I have never tried it out myself since I don't want to risk it getting stuck in 4-low.

I would recommend Cadillac of Naperville first. Talk to Ryan in service. He is @syP on here. Or you can go to Webb Chevy in Plainfield. I don't think any would give you problems.

If I test it out myself is there a chance it'll get stuck in 4-low? I'd like to know what the symptoms are so I know what to describe when I take it in.

No way of telling. If something comes apart inside a case there is no rhyme or reason as to what it will do

@lastls1, I don't mind driving It out to Webb Chevy. Do you think they'll be able to cover it with either the powertrain warranty or my purchased one?
@syP, what is your opinion? Im not sure how a Cadillac dealer will be with me brining in a Chevy when the Chevy dealer isn't far away.

Thanks. I guess I'll try it and see what happens. Worst case I guess is it gets towed in instead of driven.
