Was up all night worried about my sump pump not being able to handle the amount of rain. I have flooded before because it just couldn't keep up, total fucking nightmare. Left work early as my wife said we are supposed to get hit again and if I lose power I can go fire up the generator.

I feel like those battery back ups never work right or the battery goes dead. How long can you pump on a battery for? My sump was running pretty much non stop for an hour after the storm.

Hrmmm. I have never had an issue and this is my second setup like this. Pretty sure it can go over 8 hours. And that is with the pump running every 60 seconds for 20 second increments.

Here's an example: one manufacturer's system comes with a 40-amp/hour battery that's projected to last up to 53 hours (pumping at the rate of 2,300 GPH once every five minutes). But, if you have serious water problems such that the pump runs once a minute, that same battery will last only 12 hours.

whole house generator solves all these issues, except for a failed sump which you can get a backup

I have looked at those and can't justify the cost. So went with battery and dual sump for the stress relief. I also have portable generator if it comes down to it. I would love a whole house generator though.

more of an insurance policy but ya not sure I would have done it without the need to support an IT rack as well as a write off.

Damn. I didn't think those battery back ups could last that long. Which back up do you have? I'm running dual Zoeller pumps. 1/3 HP and a 1/2 HP

I was coming up Beverly Rd. when it opened up just now. So I sat in the garage for a little while, waited for it to simmer down, then went all the way to the lowest floor, where it's the shortest outside distance from the garage to the building and I am completely drenched.

I may go home at lunch and check on ours.

As to longevity of the battery, Ours is a deep cycle marine battery. It should last awhile. it also has a monitor on it to tell me the status/health of the battery. It's always at 100%. And I didn't hear the minder beeping this morning, telling me that it was activated.
