You'll want to stick with stock blocks IMO. The fastest 3800's on this site are running stock blocks and there have been a couple of people here who "built" thier motors and they blew very quickly. 3800s just dont seem to like being built. Stick with a stock short block. Do the proper valvetrain mods and try and keep a trans from blowing

Its all good man! I came here for help from u expierienced guys! But i kinda wna hang on to these pistons in case i ever decide to go turbo....? i just feel more comfortable with all new internals and ARP goodies.. And some nice pistons.. And im gna order new L32 rods from intense tomorrow.. But i think im gna stack up some money for an intercooler... U guys are making me want one, lol.. Damn it. And i appreciate all of ur guys input, especially on my first day. Thanks again everyone!!!!

The 3800 is different than the SBC/sbf world, all the high power 3800 cars are stock internals, because they are the best for this setup. We have more than one 500+whp 3800 on this site and all of them are stock bottom end. Search for Numbskulls build and you can see what happens to a "built" 3800 motor. And if your end goal is 330 +whp, you might want to go turbo. SC setups are hard to push past 325, not that you can't get there, SC. A basic turbo kit will net you 350+ whp without much effort.

what they said a l26 will handle more than any blower car can make and they are dirt cheap, i made over 500whp with one last year stock head gaskets and bolts and all that just a cam double roller and valvesprings, the supercharged l26 that was in my 06 has over 50k miles on it now

Yea i drive this car everywhere, i bought in 07 with 30k, now has 160k, this car ran decent with tog headers, 3" catless dp, 1.9 rockers, 3.4 pulley k&n cai, and i been polishing my damn supercharger for weeks. Its been hell. This whole 3800 platform is soooo complicated lol hey whats with these complications im always hearing on MLS gaskets. My stepfather is helping me build it. Hes old school... Built 6 sec motors for some of the chicago wise guys circuit. And builds motors at van senus for i dont know how long. Hes been around for a while. And im always telling him the nightmares with these motors.

I been working on my motor at his garage. Look at it. All tiny in a sea of big blocks. Big small blocks theres an old hemi and a studebaker motor in here. And a flathead ford. And under that cover is a 1970 mustang boss 302 with 26k on it.

Nice shop! I am no mechanic and I've only owned 1 3800 with basic mods but I have to say in all the years I've been browsing the 3800 GP forums it does seem to me that all the "built" 3800s either blow up or end up on the classifieds. (Turbos included :s00ls:) just sayin

Either way , best of luck!

with mls gaskets you just drill the rivits out and spray both sides of each layer with copper spray and bolt them down, there are alot of little stupid tricks to make a 3800 run right but once you get it figured out they are pretty reliable

Yea ive heard of this mls with copper spray but wasnt too sure. They must not seal good out of packaging im assuming, well good to kno!!! Do 3800 people ever run fel pros or OE type head gaskets?
