Two drag racing speedsters faced off on Route 59 in Naperville Friday night and reached speeds of 106 miles per hour before realizing a patrol car was following close behind them.
Long Ho, 31, of Batavia and Huy Nguyen, 23, of Plainfield were arrested and will face trial on charges of speeding more than 40 miles per hour over the posted limit and drag racing.
The men, driving a Honda S2000 and a Nissan 350Z, sped side-by-side from the Leverenz Road intersection northbound. The two were clocked going 61 miles per hour over the limit of 45. The officer stopped one of the vehicles at the intersection of Route 59 and 87th Street, about a mile down the road.
The other vehicle attempted to continue down the road, but a second officer near the intersection pulled him over soon after.
"We get quite a few speeders out on 59," said Sgt. Gregg Bell of the Naperville Police Department. "A lot of guys think that's a private raceway."
Bell said the department has made a number of similar arrests on Route 59 this year.
There were no injuries or damages to either vehicle during the incident.
Both men are free on bail and are awaiting arraignment.
