also, old motor was really built by FORD

The Ford Motor Company owns rights to build and use the MZR generation of engines under their Duratec brand name for global service in its vehicles since 2003.

As of 2011, Mazda discontinued development of the MZR generation of engines to be replaced by their new SkyActiv generation of engines. Some early 2012 Mazda cars are equipped with the 2.0 MZR engines as an option as well. Ford continues to develop and manufacture variants of the Z-engine and L-engine for their Duratec and EcoBoost four-cylinder engines. The third generation MX-5 was still produced with the MZR 1.8 or 2.0 engine, which may be shipped from the factory with a Ford Motor Company oil filter fitted, suggesting a shared production line.

Palatine
the modified 6's would bend rods because the motor made a lot of torque down low compared to other turbo 4's. Zoom Zoom boom.

Kind of hoping this turbo motor has tighter packaging near the firewall then the NA motors so I could in a fit of stupidity swap it in my mazda3. 2012 and 2013 are kind of the bastard years because they dont have enough room for the proper 4-2-1 headers so they gave it lower compression.

Compare how. And base engine or base trim like fleet trims?

Pretty much yes to both, base engine and base trim (except Malibu).

2.5 Fusion S
2.5 Mazda 6 Sport
1.5T Malibu LS

The above cars have their strengths:

Fusion - quiet, solid, actually has steering feel.
Mazda - best MPG and quickest acceleration. Slick 6AT. Light on it's feet handling.
Malibu - good space efficiency, roomy. Abundant suspension travel.

And their weaknesses:

Fusion - poor space efficiency, unrefined trans, terrible visibility all around.
Mazda - road and wind noise.
Malibu - terrible interior quality , numb steering, poor rearward visibility.

But the better overall package for a person who likes driving IMHO is the Mazda 6.

That being said Mazda needs a new car soon, not just a refresh. The new Accord looks to surpass it in all aspects except maybe interior quality (mostly in rear seat area).

Even the new Camry is reported to be not so terrible anymore.

Reliability of the Mazda has been flawless. The Fusions are not too far behind. The Malibus have been troubling. I've probably driven at least a dozen of these and out of the whole bunch only one seemed to have zero defects. The Malibu is also the only one in the fleet to strand several people so far.
