There was another video this weekend showing the Lingenfelter modded car making a run at 200mph. The water in the intercooler tanks was 250 degrees and lead to 200 degree air intake temps. They showed the car could not perform when they tried sustaining high speeds. They had to run slower speed to stay cool and then make one glory run to go past the 200mph goal. Eventually the modded ZL1 went 204 and change.

This was after the $12K in mods and you could see the rear seat was removed. So who knows what weight reduction was done to offset the roll bar weight.

It will eventually bite GM in the ass for giving the wrong info.

I hope so. Fuck GM. I can't say I like anything they are doing now. Be it their cars or business.

In other news.......First 9 second ZL1. No mods list yet. Fucker weighs 4295# with driver. sheesh!

1.54 60' is by far the best one I have seen yet with these cars. Most with slicks are still in the 1.62-1.66 range. That is why it is way hard to believe engineers got the car to go 1.6x on the stock F1 tires.

Mook, I am sure it is a full on heads, cam, tune, exhaust and so on. $12-15K in mods I am sure. I think the weight is one issue. But I think there is a underlying issue of the small blower and torque management that is not easily bypassed in the tune or some thing along those lines.

Tuning these cars isn't the issue. The factory blower is the limitation. Stock suspension, full weight CTS-V's with enough power have 60 ft. 1.4 on DRs, no reason the camaro should't with it's lighter weight and nearly identical drivetrain. Even a bolt-on CTS on a DR can go 1.5's.

I'd say that time would require about 8k in mods (as long as Hennessey wasn't doing the work) in the lighter Camaro. :)

Like you said Mike, 1.6 isn't happening on the factory tires. Fastest anybody has been in a V on the factory rubber is high 1.7's. Not sure what tires the ZL1's come with, but the PS2's on the V are pretty sticky.

I agree that they should 60' better than they are. That is why I wonder if there is some voodoo going on in the tune to limit low end torque. Remember, GM offered a full warranty on this thing. Including if it breaks at the track. Most drag racing breakage has to happen on the starting line on launch. Wouldn't limiting power help this issue and save money? haha Not sure what is up. Some thing does not add up. Especially when you see what the V is doing.

They have a varient of the Goodyear F1. I have the older version on my GT. Factory GT500 tires. They don't hook in second on my car with a whole lot less pewer than the ZL1. haha

These cars are also supposed to have some sort of launch control.

As far as breakage, only one person has hurt ANYTHING in the rear suspension on these cars (including the guys running high 9's/low 10's). One shop in CA broke a half-shaft.

GM must have paid out the ass on warranty issues with the first generation CTS-V (those guys break the rears on those cars ALL THE TIME). GM beefed the rear to the point of overkill on the 2nd gen V and the Camaro got those same parts.

this is true, I'm on rear diff number 3 in my car. granted the second one didn't fully break, it was just getting very loud

Dyno Results Stock:

476 RWHP / 476 RWTQ

The best pass 100% stock with 110 miles on the odometer was 12.41 @ 115.9 mph. It was traction limited and the track was extremely busy, so I didn’t get a good feel for the car and how to launch it.

Dyno Results Modified:

707 RWHP / 680 RWTQ (Roughly 850 crank HP)

Note: Our tuner Dan Millen was at the track with me all day logging each pass and getting more and more aggressive after each pass, so I’m sure the power was quite a bit higher than what we saw on the dyno.

Just a little info on Dan, he is a multi-time 10.5 tire world champion who always sets the bar for the class. His car runs 3.7X @ 204 mph in the 1/8 mile!

I wouldn’t hesitate to daily drive the ZL1 with these mods (minus the wheels/tires).

I do plan on driving the car to Rodger’s Chevrolet for their show/open house tomorrow, then back to Milan on the stock wheels and Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials to see what it will run on 20’s.

The first pass off the trailer today, the car went 10.14 @ 138 MPH. Many of my launches were from just above idle and it was like a bracket car with several 10.0X-10.1X passes @ 138-141 MPH, and FINALLY on the last pass 9.87 @ 142 MPH!! Dan got pretty aggressive with the tune and told me to leave as hard as I could off the converter. We WERE going 9’s on this pass! I did the burnout, staged, then focused… not worrying about my reaction time (it was horrible as you can see), put it on the converter until it felt like it was going to roll forward and let it rip. I knew at the end of the track it was a good pass when I saw 145 mph on the heads up display.

We are also currently working with PSI Superchargers to improve the factory blower. Dan runs a PSI screw blower on his 3-Second 200+ MPH 1/8 mile race car.

Huge Thanks to:
GM for building an awesome car, Rodger’s Chevrolet, Milan Dragway for the great track, Innovators West, Metco, Mickey Thompson Tires, Precision Industries, Rotofab, Stainless Works… and the technicians at Livernois Motorsports!!!!!!

Vehicle Transport Services:

We realize that many of you are quite a distance from our Dearborn Heights, MI location and have interest in our services, but are not able to make the drive due to work and busy schedules.

We have a single vehicle enclosed trailer or a two vehicle enclosed trailer if there are two vehicles in close proximity to each other. With this service, you can trust that your car will make it to our location and back to you safely, and with much more power than it arrived with!

Cost of this service is very reasonable, but varies based on a distance and the availability of our trailer.

All cars are stored safely in doors before and after work is performed.

Please call 313-561-5500 or email [email protected] for information and pricing.
