Most things detailing in direct sunlight = not recommended.
He does have a CR spotless system, so with DI water, he should be okay.

Na, just replace the film if you get water spots.The biggest issue is the TDS and hardness of the majority of water provided to the residence.
DI and softener systems absolutely help with the issues.
