Awesome!:bigthumb: I missed on one about that size at the boat on the figure 8 this weekend... :damnit::fu:

Sucks to miss one of that caliber but it's what keeps me coming back for more each time...:jg:

Good luck!

This time of year isnā€™t worth it for shore fishing. Waiting for the perch to come in on the big lake right now and water to start freezing.

Thats dedication, hope you catch what your looking for being its that cold out

Thanks Dudes, got out at 8am my pillow kicked my butt this morning... Winds just got calm now @3mph, which is what I want to be able to control my live bait Sucker's more easily and cast big rubber baits at the same time. Brought the Mr.Heater out to dry out my gloves when they get wet. Probably staying out until 2:00ish, gotta go measure up a job in Woodstock later the day if my carpenter finishes up what he needs to do...

Itā€™s crazy using bait most people would be happy catching on a rod and reelin the first place.

What do suckers cost, assuming you bought it?

LoL yeah $17 for 2 of them so 8.50 each. Gotta have big meat in the water to entice the Big Girls!

They will eat smaller ones and I can get smaller ones 8-10" for 3.50 each. Musky this time of year are looking for Big meals to help fatten up for winter and spawning happens soon after Ice out.

Had one follow upto the boat so far about 40" class but had a weed hanging on one the hooks so it didn't commit. Might stay out until sunset depending on what happens in the next hour have heard nothing from the carpenter so assuming I'll do that 2morrow.

First Ice Fishing catches of the Season from this Afternoon. I went 3 for 5 on Tip Ups in 3.5hrs, bigger one came first on the Automatic/rod. There is about 3 inches of ice in some spots as of now but 1.5" in other spots I checked.

How do you like the automatic fisherman?

Love them, there's a learning curve I had to go through with rod sizes as I got mine like 8 years ago. I'll be catching Salmon/Trout through the ice this year which I did years ago with them when I first got it. I just bought 2 40" rods this weekend and will be getting 2 of the newer version Automatic Fisherman Snappers that recently came out that adjust for larger rods. Regular one's you can only really use up to a 33" rod.

How thick does the ice have to be for it to be actually safe to be fishing on?
I seen SBF mention above 1.5" and 3" that doesnt sound all that thick.

The 1.5" is dicey as hell, it was the last part to freeze up. Would fish it early morning with a Tip Up but wouldn't sit/stand around in that area for lengths of time, especially later in the day with sunny conditions with temps in the upper 30's.

Fuck that ice fishing shit, you guys are nuts, lol.
Do either of you ever drive your vehicle on to the ice?

Anything 12+" sure if there is no parking/access around the lake, I will park out on the ice near the launch but mostly just drag out a sled with my gear or we bring out ATV's or Snowmobile's. Good times Grilling out/Fishing/Drinking & Braaaaping!:jg:
