I’m getting ready to purchase a bellhousing, flywheel, and clutch for my 63 Biscayne project. It will be running a 400hp 327 that I’d like to rev to 7k. I will have a close ratio Muncie and 4.11 gear behind it. I’d like to run an 11” clutch, so I was planning on picking up a 621 GM aluminum bellhousing for $150. But I’m wondering if I should be going for a Lakewood scatter shield instead. They run about $550, which is tough for me to swallow. I’ve beat the snot out of T56 f-bodies in the past with no concerns. I’d like to enter this 63 in some nostalgia races in the future. What are your guys thoughts on the bellhousing situation? Is anyone on here running a scatter shield? Thanks

If you went with a QuickTime bellhousing those are SFI certified I believe. I have one on my Supra to adapt the 2J to a T56 magnum-f trans. It works great for my application however I’m not racing this car although I feel as though the QT bell is going to hold up better than a stock bell if something catastrophic were to fail.

If you are going with a 6speed maybe consider a t56 magnum. They are internally more like a tr6060 but with the flexibility of a t56 to adapt it to almost any application.

For now I’m going to run the Muncie 4 speed that I have. I’m just trying to figure if I should cough up the extra $400 for a Lakewood/QuickTime bellhousing/scattershield or just run a typical GM aluminum bellhousing.
How much power are you throwing at it? If your plan is to go bigger power later with a 6speed then you could probably get away with the aluminum BH
