That’s a place just like where I work, after working in 5 plants over the last 18 years Ive been fortunate enough to only see one real fire in person, and we were able to get it out with a hand full of fire extinguishers and a couple water hoses, I can find you some awesome plant explosions though every time one happens we have a safety talk about it at work

From cameras inside the unit, this turned out to be a propane neutralization column that had severe corrosion from acid in the process making it through and eating the bottom of the vessel out, the cloud is propane, the plant closed down and never reopened after this, the fire and explosions cost the company in the billions of dollars

I’ve been evacuated out of a plant several times due to fires and I’ve had to shelter in place due to highly volatile and toxic chemicals leaking several times, fires always worry me the worst. One plant I worked at lost the refrigeration unit on a high pressure above ground vessel and they were worried about it rupturing and exploding, they had to evacuate a 3 mile radius because that was the kill zone of it blew

I'm glad I am not working in refineries anymore. Great people and interesting work. I was non-essential onsite personnel so I was able to GTFO if anything started popping off, but feeling the ground below you shake and the towers blowing flames 50 feet in the air out of nowhere, sure does make you question where you work and if its worth it

Having visited a couple it was walking up and smelling aromatic ketones in the air, then thinking "this smells lik cancer."
