Letā€™s go!! Fishing 2024! Whatā€™s everyoneā€™s plans? thoughts?

I got a cane pole and a Tenkara rod (Japanese fly fishing rod setup.). Will be fun to try those out. Also got a decent net so I can hit up the pond by me that is absolutely loaded with massive carp and be able to land them.

Also went to the fishing expo at the Schaumburg convention center today. Picked up a couple flys, small bobbers and some top water bass stuff. It was packed! Runs tomorrow as well if anyone is interested.

Anyone know of some good family friendly fishing holes near Elgin or 1/2 hour away? Iā€™m going to try to take my son fishing at least once or twice a month this summer so we can get out of the house.

If you are willing to drive a little further then consider Shabbona Lake for a father and son day where you can rent a small boat.

Also, good fishing

Iā€™m considering it but Iā€™m not sure itā€™s worth renting a boat with a 6 year old with the attention span of a gnat. I honestly think heā€™d be fine tossing a bobber and worm into Poplar Creek right up the road from me. Most likely itā€™ll be a bunch of trips up to hang with my dad in Grayslake and shore fish the private lakes in his retirement community.

I've been killing it almost every day at a pond / dam system by my house. Usually grab a few northern and bass every morning I'm out there. Not too many huge ones or worth bragging about but catching non stop has been great. Here's a few from this year alone and a pic of the glass I drive up to most mornings.

Don't judge my man handling this guy, he had a rough time getting off my hook, just had to snap a Pic and get him back šŸ˜‚. This guy was 27".

I hit up the creek on Sunday at the crack of dawn and caught a bunch of smaller bass, 1 small catfish, and had a decent size northern broke my line. Wasnā€™t expecting it so I was using my ultralight setup. Ended my morning early and got an earful when I got home because I left without my phone. lol. I mean she could have yelled for me from the house.
