I used to use the Live app (both with the 9500ix, and then when I got the max). I somewhat like the app with the Max as it (the Max) actually shows the speed limit on the detector itself along with your current speed. The app is alright but I don't think it's the greatest. I feel as if that should be free instead of the need to purchase a subscription to that service. $100 for the Live cable and year subscription (iirc). Plus, I also think they could make the app much better. It shows a map on the screen. That's cool. But you can't use navigation with it. I think it'd be cool if they could integrate it with Google Maps or Apple Maps or have their own navigation tool built into the app. Kind of sucks needing to switch between 2 different apps if you need to navigate somewhere. (I don't use the voice turns). But it's not entirely bad. Just not really worth the money IMO.
I think I have about a month left with Escort Live. I might start using it for the remainder of my subscription.
As for the price. It's steep. But I think the detector has saved me a couple times. Although before I even used a detector, I never really got pulled over or ticketed neither, but it does kind of serve as a reminder to check your speed when the detector goes off (although I do tend to go over about 5mph).
Lastly, Escort does have 2 new detectors that came out just a couple weeks ago (if that). One being the Max 2. The other I can't remember the name, but kind of an upgraded 8500 if I recall correctly. The max 2 is basically the Max but with integrated Bluetooth (for Live-instead of needing the Escort Live cable). You can purchase the detectors through Escort themselves and pay a couple hundred down or so, and then pay $30/month for 12 months. Still same price, but broken down and no interest. Not entirely to bad if you don't have all the money up front.
