Any way to buy a boat out of state and save paying high IL sales tax? Would buying a boat in Wisconsin and registering in Wisconsin save any money?

You pay taxes on a boat according to its home port, you just have to keep it in that port for the first year to pay less taxes, my dad kept his in Racine wi for the first season and saved 5% in taxes over cook county

significant on a 200k boat to save 5.5 vs 10.5... hyyyuuuuuge

Depends on what your buying, my dad made one dealer split up the boat motor and trailer into 3 bills since you only pay tax on the boat in Illinois, it was an outboard boat so could have been legit sold like that, used boat of course

Loopholes, when your state sucks so much dick you need to use them just to be able to afford nice things, I hate Illinois I need to move south
