I have a 1996 Four Winns 258 on trailer I recently bought as a project for sale. I recently bought from original owner who meticulously maintained boat with low hours (960 ish)for the year on the Volvo 7.4l EFI and SX outdrive (45 mph top speed).
He kept it in indoor storage off season and in freshwater inland lakes during the boating season so there is no bottom paint. The pride of ownership shows in the gloss of the gelcoat and the vinyl upholstery with no wear marks, skuffs or tears the vinyl looks almost (if not) new.
Previous owner reports everything is in working order except engine tilt gauge. Owner pulled boat out of water in July and discovered moisture in starboard side of hull drawn in picture below. He debated back and forth on fixing it because he is an automotive mechanic/enthusiast. What he did do was drill a series of small holes where the moisture meter showed water contamination. He reported small amount of water dripped out and he decided to sell.
I like automobile/boat projects but this repair will take more than Iād thought of drying hull and sealing holes. Before he drill the holes I had planned to use it the last few weeks of season then fix it over the winter but once he drilled the holes that nixed that plan. I took boat to a fiberglass hull repair shop and owner pointed out thereās a void in the hull (by pushing in) that will require either replacing fiberglass by opening hull or the injection of resin or epoxy into the void to restore hull integrity.
This boat has all parts in excellent condition including tables, filler cushions, bimini, camper canvas and 2 storage/transportation covers, lines, anchors, vest, electrical cords plus a custom trailer. If someone knows how to work with fiberglass this would be an excellent winter project. Looking on FB marketplace these boats go for 13K and up. I have title for boat but not for trailer because apparently titles aren't required in MI to register trailers below a certain weight.
Price is 5k obo and boat located in IL.
