Price point....Lighter components such as aluminum, magnesium, and carbon fiber all add cost to the vehicle. Like I mentioned above, look at the CTSV coupe as a benchmark in terms of curb weight. GM has stated that it’s difficult to removed weight from the Zeta platform.

You know the price of this new ZL1 camaro now?

The Zeta is lighter than the Sigma. The CTS coupe with the 3.6 DI is about 200 lbs. heavier than the V6 Camaro so look at that weight difference. Also by going with an electric power steering system drops some weight as well as carbon fiber. Bigger wheels may not add weight either and by looking at the design I could see them weighing as much as the narrower SS rims.

The CTV Coupe went from 3909 (GM source) to a bit over 4,200 lbs (Edmunds, C&D, etc). That’s a 300 lbs weight gain from normal to V.

The lightest 2011 Camaro is listed as 3741 on Chevy’s site. My guess for the ZL1 curb based on this, is 4125 or 300 lbs heavier than the GT500.

It's a rivalry....post a cubs thread and the sox fans will pop in....post a bears thread and you will get packers fans that pop in...etc.

GM built this car because of the GT500, so why not compare it?

This

If it was a GT500 thread it would've turned out the same way. You can say that Jason is swinging Ford's nuts hard, but I would say that there are a TON more people that are swinging GM's nuts just as hard, including you Panda :noes:

Based on what your saying if the ZL1 adds 300 lbs. then 3741 + 300 = 4041. Now factor in electric power steering and carbon fiber and I could see the ZL1 coming in just under 4000 lbs. at 39xx and change. I'm anxious to see what the actual curb weight is though. GM has also been very tight lipped about final HP numbers. I'm sure that's to keep Ford guessing. If the CTS-V makes 556 HP then the ZL1 should make 575.

I just caught that my math was incorrect. It would still be roughly 200 lbs heavier. Plus the GT500 has the advantage in rear end setup. A SRA is easier to put the power down than an IRS. I'd bet that they are a drivers race with the GT500 being faster. Remember, Ford could also have some tricks too by the time this car comes to market.

I have heard some rumors about the GT500 that scare me but I think that's why GM won't release an actual HP number. Sound like GM us determined to stay ahead of the GT500. Either way I'm happy to see GM pushing the Camaro progression. Hopefully the Camaro and Vette can stay competitive without one of them losing out. The HP wars are definitely on.
