they are very very cheap, and poorly put together. you're looking at America's #1 rattle trap POS.

what else have you test driven?

Haha yeah I can tell they're very cheaply made, but I figured couldn't beat a car with 10k miles and a bumper to bumper warranty for 7k. But then I had to sell it, a customer wanted it and my boss would kill me if I turned away a sale.
Not a ton, I some-what like the compass that we have, but the fact that it's a chrysler product, and at 40k miles it needs a transfer case and already has lifter tick kind of turns me off. (No I'm not selling it like that, it will go back to auction and become another dealerships problem). We get alot of newer model sebrings that aren't horrible, but way to girly and chryslery for me. Any recommendations that I should check out?

What do you want/need out of a winter car?

If you are looking for a SUV with 4wd/awd, I'd recommend test driving an Escape as well if you make due with something a bit smaller. GREAT little cars, 2 very stout engines, and good build quality.

With Mercury going under, you may be able to find a 2002+ Mountaineer fairly cheaply as well, which you can get with the 4.6 Modular motor.

Hyundai Sante Fe's I've heard a lot of good things about, and can be had very cheaply as well.

The Lexus 'smaller' SUV *Can't remember the designation it has* are supposed to be mechanically quite a bit more 'stout' than the MDX *Camry motor/transmission*

my dad has an escape. great suv.
Bleeehhh! Way too bland sir!

And for today's WTF of the day, my older brother, a self-taught programmer making $$$$, sold his special ordered Audi S5 at a $7000 lose and bought himself a used Escape. No money issues, just didn't think he was using the S5 enough to justify it. How's THAT for financial maturity!?

Yeah I've always like the lexus RX suvs, they're great cars. I'm going to look into that as well. I'm going to check local cars.com now for a decently priced 300 or 330. Not much a fan of ford/mercury, not saying they're not good cars, just not a personal fan. I have heard great things about the escape though.

What do youguys think of 2005ish Rav4s?

they're reliable. not much power though.
i guess the question is what are you looking for? you can snag a nice low mileage 05 grand cherokee with a hemi for under 15k, but gas mileage is going to suck...hard.
or you could find a nice CR-V that will get decent mileage, but wont have enough power to get out of its own way...

Great vehicle......for a girl.
I would think an 03 MDX would have had its trans problem long before 105k. And a lot of them where repaired without customer knowledge, thus escaping the recall and keeping Hondas name intact.

Yeah you know toyotas just bore the hell out of me. Just like your sig says, great cars, but I'd take an old grand prix over a new toyota any day. I know it's just a winter car but it's still something I'll be using every day, I'd like it to be something I enjoy driving.

I don't want anything with a v8. Even the 3.5 v6 was a stretch. If I were to get a jeep it'd probably be a compass. The CR-Vs are GREAT cars, yeah they're dog slow but they get crazy MPGs for an AWD suv.

For the record, 'who says' CRV's get grazy mpg's?

My family had an 05 with the K20 engine, and it never got better than 22/23 mixed AND was dog slow.

V6 Escapes can get the same mpg, as well as V-6 Yotas.

nah he did not at all actually...

he is far from a car guy and it could very well have been a lack of maintenance or soemthing

i didnt think the srx's are all that small.. i fit super comfy in the front seats... plus i think an Awd Northstar one with exhaust would be a pretty badass winter ripper.

I've driven my old bosses SRX many moons ago, and I fit comfortably, but it was just very 'cock-pit' like, everything was kinda 'snug' as if I was driving a much smaller car if you know what I mean. (I'm sure the small windows and higher shoulder probably caused this feel also to a degree)
