over the past few weeks i've been going to the gym and getting back into the routine. i haven't worked out like this in years; honestly probably since high school. that was almost 10 years ago.

i'm not doing any kind of extreme lifting, i'm more or less going through the motions to get my strength back. i have normal soreness usually, or none at all the next day or 2. one thing i have noticed is i'm sleeping like the dead now. i mean, i slept hard before, but now it's even more so.

i get to bed normally anytime between 9:30 and 11pm during the week and get up at 5:15. when my alarm goes off lately, i'm still feeling dead tired, like i just want to sleep for another 4 hours.

would it be normal that my body would feel this way when i need to get up on the morning? its bad enough i have to drag myself out of bed every morning to go to work, but now it's even harder. i don't remember it being like this years ago.

+1 to taking in enough calories. You might think that eating less is what you need to do, but you must make sure you're getting a good balanced diet and taking in enough calories for your weight and activity level.

Either that, or maybe being that you had a recent birthday... maybe that old age is setting in?

LOL @ Eagle....

Do you eat breakfast? Try eating good healthy snacks between meals, especially one about an our before you workout.

More smaller meals are going to help you out a ton. If you are working out a lot your body will welcome the regular influx of energy. Just be sure they are healthy calories, lot's of fruit and vegetables and as you already know, protein.

the only reason i feel old is because i've been sitting at a desk for over 8 years and not going to the gym.

i'm not trying to gain weight here. i will gain some weight due to muscle coming back, but i don't need to be putting on pounds because the calorie intake is too much. i'm building my cardio and endurance as well here, so it's not strictly resistance training at the gym.

I am not talking gaining weight. I am in the same position as you. But I go through peaks and valleys where I work out more or less. Before vacation in August I was working out more than normal and I had to eat more or I was just dead all the time. Didn't gain weight and wasn't dead to the world. Try it.

And if you think you have no energy now, try riding your bike to work 3-4 days a week and not eating more...

Yeah, at 30 the metabolism slows down quite a bit. I think I went from about 160 to 175 as I got closer to 30. Now I'm close to 190, but I'm still pretty lean.

Everyone is different. There is no magical age that everyone's metabolism slows down.

I turn 30 in 5 months and I still feel the same as 20. I'm probably in better shape now and eat better than when I was 20 too.

As for Ryan, give it a couple more weeks, make sure you're eating good and getting a good night's sleep. If you are still dead tired, you might have a vitamin deficiency or something...

EDIT: My pops turns 60 in 5 months and he still eats like he's 20...he's a whopping 165lbs...

x2 on the calorie intake. Just eat clean calories, dont go and scarf down twice as much mcdonalds at lunch. If you dont eat breakfast, try just drinking a protein shake instead. In the mornings I rarely have an appetite, but can manage to drink a protein shake instead.

I, unlike you, am trying to gain weight. Starting early november, I started working out with one of my friends. Im up to 176lbs from 162lbs in that little bit of time. It feels so good to actually see results from hard work.

It's also the cold weather. In the winter, your body slows down.

Also, if you go to bed at 11pm and get up at 5:15; you aren't getting a full 8 hours of sleep. Try taking a Men's One-a-day too, that seems to help me. I don't eat very well, so I need to get my vitamins elsewhere.

I think you're taking the wrong vitamins...shouldn't you be taking these?
