My HP dv8000 isn't working properly

Sounds like its displaying "System Ready", hearing any weird noises coming from the hard drive? Tried doing a scandisk check? In addition to the possibility of a bad hard drive it could also be a spyware issue if something modified the startup processes.

I dont think it's spyware. It fell off my couch because of my cat. It fell on the front side where the two hard drives are placed at the bottom of the computer

HPs are located right behind the speaker covers

Sounds like catware destroyed your hard drive then. Usually when you get a system ready screen the BIOS is waiting for output from the main startup drive.

Can't really tell from across the internets. Would have to run a CD-rom based hard drive test to verify.

You know the operating system one is toast. Reload that and see if you got lucky and the other one wasn't spinning/being accessed.

Why I love my Thinkpad it turns off the hard drive if it detects a drop/impact.
