Golf Rose who said their Dr was already doing an emergency surgery. They told us to call a place in Elk Grove, Elk Grove said to call their other office in Buffalo Grove. Buffalo Grove said they couldnt do it. Dont have the names, as they just gave us phone numbers.

Thanks man, and we had to do the same. But they had to let me in as they cant handle my dog. I had to muzzle him, which yes he gets the fucker off no matter how tight. Then I pinned him against the corner, the Dr snuck in to give him his sedation shot in the rear leg. Within 10 min he was out like a light. My Wife and I were just talking yesterday about how he loved the vet when he was younger. We took him to a place in Lisle to get neutered when he was almost 2. They must have did something to him to make him hate the vet with a passion now. He is fine in the vet, but the minute the Dr or tech comes in, he loses his fucking mind.

So they just called and said still in surgery, a lot worse then initially diagnosed. Wanted to know if I would be comfortable pulling bandage off and reapplying every 2-3 days at home, or if they should schedule me to bring him in. But it will cost almost $200 a visit as he will need to be sedated every time. Fuck that, I'll try and do it at home lol.
Hardest part is when they say "keep them calm after surgery" and it seems like a day after the surgery they want to run around like idiots. :bowrofl:

They are sending him home with some pretty strong pain killers. She said he will be somewhat sedated on them while at home.
So fingers crossed as he loves to run around with his toys

I had to take my 2 year old cat to VCA Arboretum in Lisle on New Years Eve. That was a pricey visit but they were top notch. If I wasn't already a regular customer with the annual care plan at Hanover Park Animal Care I'd have no problem switching to them as a regular vet.

I've also had good luck with Naperville Animal Hospital. However neither HPAC or NAH are also emergency like VCA is.

I took mine to Golf Rose for their ER vets a little while back and it was a pain in the ass, called and made an appointment, then waited in the car for them to come to me to take the dog, etc....

I get having Covid precautions, but Id rather be masked up and with my dog than just handing them over to the vet and waiting in the parking lot.

Hope all goes well at the vet today!
What's odd is most vets are still doing that, which got old six months ago. Last week Naperville Animal Clinic said they were allowing owners inside with their pets and that they were being staged so they weren't interacting with other customers/owners/patients.

We are using Hanover Park Animal Care and they are doing it. I was the only pet owner that went in the bldg both Saturday and today. You have to call from the lot and wait for them to come out and get your pet.

The vet Ive used since mine were puppies is moving to North Aurora so I need to decide if I continue using her or if I find a new vet.

If im going to use a new one I think I am going to try to start using Golf Rose just so that theyre familiar with them and always have all their records on hand.
Stay away from the Streamwood vet. They are horrible and pricey. I dont think I ever spent less than $500 in that shit hole.

Got the "to do" list from the builder that provides guidelines as to what needs to be chosen and when, where to go, etc. Feelsgoodman, but holy shit this list is long. So many things that need to be chosen. Going to pick out the front double door and stone color this week.

Talked with him for an hour yesterday about shit that the architects did that doesn't make much sense, which is frustrating given how much they charge. He said they're moreso artists than they are architects lol. He's got to figure out how he's going to do the garage because they way they have it now there's a beam that spans 27' between support columns.

The garage. I'm not gonna know what to do with myself going from my small 20x22 shoebox to this thing

Will there be room in the attic to store things? If so I would definitely make the opening larger for the attic access, and maybe even think about one of those lifts that allow you to bring things up there from the garage.

Some of my neighbors have that work shop space. Wish I had one. Can you fit a full size PU in there?

Well the middle bay is 32' deep, and the outer bay is ~24' between the garage door and the workshop, so yes you could fit an f350 in either bay.

I didn't really want the elevated workshop, rather have one long slab, but the builder was concerned that there would be too much concrete exposed in that area because of the grade of the lot, and he was worried about it freezing. Soooo workshop w/ basement storage space under it is what we went with

Yeah, been going to them for about two years now. At least 15-20 trips since the middle of December. Sometimes they're quick to check you in and get a tech to call you, sometimes you just sit and wait, wasting time and gas.

What I have spoken them about is telling the customer to bring their pet to the door (under the tent) and they'll be right out. Okay, it's 5° outside and you want me to stand outside waiting for you? Um, no. Three times now I've gone back to my truck and called them to tell them I'll get out when I see them in the vestibule. I'm not subjecting my sick cat to those temps. It's not all the time, just seems when it's damn cold it happens.

Luxating Patella surgery at 8 months old and the other back leg at 1.5 years old. Was a brutal $10K to pay but he is 100% now.

Just hope he doesn't blow an ACL as that still can happen but is greatly reduced with this surgery.
Not sure if $10k is bad or good. Four days for my cat in the VCA ER was $4200, and that was for IV fluids. medicine, and tests.

Doesnt matter to me, pay it.

Got into an argument with my buddy when I told him I would sell the Cobra if I had to in order for either of my dogs to live on....

Within reason of course. If theyre 15 and on their way out I wouldnt spend 10k, but with them being 5 and 6 I would in a heartbeat.
Thats a tough one, our Rottie was 3 or 4 and got Lymph Node cancer. Our options were put him down for a few hundred, or spend like $500 a month to keep him comfortable and somewhat active for possibly a year. We chose to put him down and was a very hard decision. I seriously considered getting a 2nd part time job at night to pay that $500 a month.

Each one was around $5k ballpark. With this particular surgery pup was in and out in the same day. Boarding and meds are extremely $$$.

There is such a huge cost gap from vet to vet. We had 6 places see him and we had a range of $1800/leg to $6500/leg. Crazy how the same procedure cost's vastly different.

That would factor in as well.

I wouldnt spend 10K to have them back for a year, but if it was a surgery that would allow them to live a full life for 10k I would be doing it for sure.....

Exactly why it wasn't even a choice to go ahead with the ER hospitalization. She just turned 2 back in October. She has a whole life ahead of her. Good thing is that she responded very well to the treatment. She basically needed to be pumped full of fluids and antibiotics, even though we are giving her subcutaneous fluids daily along with an antibiotic. Since then we've upped the amount and added potassium to the fluid bag and she's doing exceptionally better. Long term cost will be about $120-$140/mo for fluids with potassium, 18ga needles, and the medicine. So financially sustainable. Just sucks having to poke her with a needle every night. For 6.75lbs she's seriously strong and even with three people she can get free and pull the needle out.

Hopefully her kidneys will clear up and we can reduce the frequency of the fluid delivery.
