I haven't required one on my car since I turned 16.
You might not have required one, but the state of IL does.

I know, it's a common argument (but it ruins the look of my precious automobile). It also servers a purpose. Such is the case when my mom was rear-ended by a drunk driver who promptly fled the scene in which her car was disabled. The impact caused their front bumper cover with license plate to fall off. So when she called the police she gave them the license plate number. They went right to the person's house, and they were still sitting in the car, passed out, engine running, car in gear up against the front of the house.

If the car didn't have a front plate they'd never have known who hit her, and she wasn't able to follow them. It totaled the car and the other driver's insurance had to cover it. Otherwise it would have been on her.

Edit: It was also the other driver's third DUI and they were on a revoked license. So this landed them in jail for a few years and got him off the roads.

So yeah, I also don't like that it "ruins the lines", but it's required in this state for a reason.

The redesign of the front end in 2014 is one of the things i really like about the E class . If i took the plate bracket off there might be rub marks on the bumper . We'll see down the road if i take it off and maybe put black plugs in the holes . Right now i am happy to have found this car . The pink frame is an Auto Nation thing , the dealer (Audi Westmont) is affiliated with them . They will be swapped out with black frames .

Maybe Illinois should only require them on the front then
