I have, but I avoid going east as much as I can. The bikes have been downtown before, but seriously doubt they ever will again.

When things were "normal" we used to ride out to Shabbona Lake for lunch. Typically meeting somewhere along the way. You could just run 30 out there, but it's boring and too much traffic. So I run 88 to the 56 exit, go past the airport and turn left (south) on Dugan Rd, cross the track and take the first right at the traffic circle to get on to Granart Rd. From there take it to Galena/Chicago Rd (little rock) and go west to Shabbona rd, then north to the park. You can enter from the south near the crew buildings which is a gravel entrance, or go to the north entrance and ride through.

However Galena/Chicago Rd has gotten a lot of traffic from people avoiding 30, and the road surface is starting to suffer. So instead I run Chicago Rd to Somonauk Rd and go south to Suydam Rd. Then take that west all the way out to Harper Rd or Rollo Rd, then go north to catch Shabbona Rd. Suydam is very lightly traveled, has a better surface, and actually winds around just a bit. It's not farm fields the whole way. Adds a few miles, but to avoid the traffic it is worth it.

Totally missed this post. I grew up in Shabbona, my preschool teacher teacher runs that cafe at the lake.

That's a great route to take

I recently learned about taking the south entrance gravel road to save the time coming in from the north. Few hundred yards of tightly packed gravel and dirt don't bother me at low speeds. Saves from having to do 15-20mph through the whole park, catching those cracks in the road every 50'.

I tried calling last week to see if they were allowing patio eating at Pokanoka's, but could never get through to anyone.

From what I've read on the Magura slaves is it is usually just the o-ring that fails. Have you replaced that yet?
Appears to be a double lip seal or something similar that I don’t know the proper name for, it’s obviously fucked though, I ordered a rebuild kit if the new part hasn’t shipped by the time the rebuild kit ships I’ll cancel my order, it’s an aftermarket rebuild hopefully it holds up better than the stock one

I just ordered up some new tires for the cruiser. Did it too late into the season, no one has the model/size I need for the rear so it'll take a few weeks to get in. That's fine as I easily have a few thousand miles left on the current skins before I even have to start to worry.

What are you using to clean/polish the wheels/spokes? Mine need to be done something fierce. I'm replacing the front brake pads so might as well get that wheel cleaned up while I can access it best.

With the weather forecast for this weekend I'm looking for another scenic route. Contemplating a run into WI through Kettle Moraine south using all back roads.

Like I said, thinking north for some decent scenery. Promised the g/f I'd take her out so she can try out the new passenger floorboards I installed. However she might complain with "it's too cool out for it". I avoid cities/towns/traffic like the plague (or virus, lol). Out to ride and enjoy the day.

I had one of the two front brake lines (racing setup) on my 96 ZX-9R split while I was down at Starved Rock. We had just run 71 through the twisties and turned around at the lodge, running them back again. Had stopped at that first parking lot right before the hairpin (going west). As I was pulling out I grabbed the front brake only to "casually" slow down. Started to pump it, as I was getting close to the road, and traffic. Nothing. Ended up killing the ignition and letting the clutch out (in 2nd gear) slowly to bring the bike to a stop. Since it was gravel I wasn't about to let the rear tire lock and dig in.

I got off the bike and saw the front wheel covered in brake fluid. Master cylinder inspection window showed it was empty. Had to ride all the way home to Carol Stream with no front brakes. That was a fun ride, and boy did habit kick in when going to stop. Kept wanting to grab the front brake lever. Lots of downshifting and rear brakes on the way back to slow me down. I can only imagine what would have happened had I zipped into that first turn at speed only to have no front brakes. I'm a good rider and all, but pretty sure I'd have been eating guard rail for lunch.

Ordered stainless lines, a bunch of fluid, and new pads all around. I'm not sure how much rear pad I had before I started riding that day, but I sure didn't have much left when I got home.

When I got my ZX10-R, and subsequently the ZX6-R, one of the first things I did was swap out the rubber lines for for stainless ones. They both got RBF600 fluid to keep them from boiling while at the track, especially for sessions at Road America.
I just kinda went through something similar with the MT10, but kinda the opposite. Getting it ready for our Dragon trip a couple weeks ago, Anthony, Mike and I put new tires on it. I put the wheels back on the bike, making sure to lube the rear caliper pins/sliders. Got it all back together, and the rear wheel was tight and barely spun. I thought it was the new spacers I put in, so I put the stockers back in, checked the alignment a dozen times, etc. Finally figured out that it was the rear caliper, it was sticking. I fought with it a couple days before I finally threw in the towel. DuPage Yamaha takes walk-ins on Saturdays for maintenance work, so 2 days before we leave for the Dragon, I ride the bike there, trying not to touch the rear brake...habit took over a couple times, so I had to stop and push the caliper so it was loose on the rotor. They got it right in, and an hour later they pull it out and tell me she's ready for the mountains. Turns out the caliper didn't like the anti-seize I used to lube it with. I've always used that on my cars/bikes before. They cleaned it up, flushed the rear master cylinder, and it was all good.

Interesting that the anti-seize could make that much of a difference, or that the slide pins were just that finicky. Good to know if I encounter that.

I'm not a fan of DuPage (which are two miles from me). Friend of mine went there on his GSXR cause it was not turning well. I met him there. They were giving him the run down of all the issues it could be and started running up the $$$$. I walked up, looked at the front tire, pressed down on the rim with my toe and watched the rubber bulge out. Tire was low on air, that's it. Went across the street to the gas station and filled it up. Think it cost him a quarter. Had he wanted to ride it to my house with the low pressure it would have been free. Jerks at DuPage wouldn't even let him use their air line or put air in it for him without a full service write up.

Yeah, I used to go to Lombard Kaw/Suz cause I was in good with the salesguy (Greg), and the Service Lead (Ron). They closed up so I started going to B&B and Brian would always take care of me. Gave me a screaming deal on my current 2007 ZX6-R. Whenever I needed service he would tell me to call him, and he'd make sure it was taken care of. Really miss that they're gone. He gave me some great customer service and discounts.

I rode to work today, first time for the year. Apparently my bike decided to turn into a Harley before lunch

I am just kidding of course, I have nothing against any bike really. I think it was just gas that expanded once it got into the sun? I filled it up this morning right next to my work and probably over did it since its still at the top of the tank. Didn't see anything wet on the bike, and it rode fine on the way to lunch. I parked next to my coworkers Harley when I got back, so if it does it again Ill blame his bike

My bike does the same thing, if it's hot out and in the sun the fuel tank vent lets a few drops of gas out if it's full enough. I was pissed the first time I noticed it. Brand new bike and it had a leak...until I realized what it was. It's pretty common.

Looks like some old coolant got regurgitated through your gas tank and shat out through your oil pan's rectum.

It sure does, and I thought the same thing. We will see what it looks like a bit later I guess.

Yeah I am pretty sure that's all it is. Every time I fill it I usually ride for a while before parking it. Today I went basically a block away so I am pretty sure I over did it. Its never leaked a drop before, and even though it looks like oil and coolant it smelled like gas. Still gonna ride it the hour or so back home at the end of the day :D
